I think it's also hard to evaluate them separately sometimes. Was Butler bad at designing secondary play 2 years ago, or was the problem that we dropped more INTs than any other team in the league?

I also think the skill set for being a good HC isn't the same for being a good OC /DC. But I may be biased based on how the Steelers have had a ton of success looking for leaders that can work with good coordinators instead of X/O guys (who I tend to think have less humility)
I agree with you that if I had to make a choice - I'll take great talent over great coaching.

But I'm a spoiled Steelers fan. I want, expect and demand both.........

If a coach has multiple playoffs and SB appearances over a long span of time you must conclude it's the coaching because players come and go, especially in these days of free agency.

Oh wait,... we did that last season.
then, you missed my point...so, lemme quote... ME... lol

I'd rather have had 2 more SB appearances and Ben retire, battered and successful in 2016 than to have 10 years of "bleh"
i don't disagree that he was gonna be batter more... but, that team, won more.

nope. i don't... not saying necessarily the CURRENT coordinators. though the D (with a lot more talent) was solid last year. the offense, i still worry about.

Not because of an OC that led the 20th ranked offense with a QB throwing 17 TDs 15 interceptions and sacked 46 times.

We scored ONE offensive touchdown in winning the AFC championship game against the Ravens.
Our offense was also outscored by the Cardinals offense in the SB. JH picks 7 covers the difference in winning and losing. It was more likely a 14 or at least a 10 point swing as it both scored and prevented a score, which would have been insurmountable.

Not only was Lebeaus defense number one...we scored non-offensive touchdowns in EVERY postseason game that season.

Ben throws 5 TDs we score 6 and lose to the Jags and we long for an offense that failed to score NEAR that in the championship game and SB COMBINED in 2008?
We scored 13 and 20 offensive points in those 2 games in 2008. FORTY TWO in losing to the Jaguars two years ago.

How good does an offense need to be when your defense is giving up 13.9? 20th offense gets you to 12-4.

We “won more” because of defense PERIOD. It isn’t even close to debatable.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

In 2018 Ben had more passing yards than ANYONE in the NFL. I think we will be just fine, if Ben is.

                  This.

Even if he's just average we should make the playoffs and our D should at least give us a change against anyone.

If he's where he was 2 years ago, I think we'll be one of the best teams in the conference (although the Rats should also be good next year).

I got beat up when I predicted Ravens were gonna be real good in 2019. They definitely will be in 2020. Their draft was sick. But a healthy Ben and D can beat them.

yeah.. I know we want the Ravens to be bad but there was a lot of time spent on here by someone claiming the Ravens made a huge mistake by drafting Lamar.

All he’s done is gone 21 and 3 or some insane record to start his career. Any day now tho, he’s going to fail.

I think a better argument is we need Ben back, he is the best chance to beat the Rats right now.

our D played inspired ball the first time we faced them but last game we were spent. You have to sustain drives to beat that team.
