****This is from 2019 season going into 2020!****
Happy New Year! I hope everyones hang over is not as bad as mine!
Here are my basic offseason plans ( way too early) after what I have gathered from Tomlin's end of season presser, the media, and my own thoughts going forward.
1) We need to change the scheme of th offense. Fitchner gets a pass, due to all the injuries, but I would tell him he is on a short leash if there is no improvement in his creativity and game plans. With him on board we need to change the focus of the basic scheme, need to be come a running team period. ( look at Indy, Tenn, SF, Bmore, even NE and Seattle)
There is still alot of uncertainty surrounding Ben. Is he going to come back? Is he going to be any good? Is his arm going to be able to last? Too many questions, even if we do have a back up plan going into next year, are we going to really depend on a 2nd/3rd stringer to carry this team, if Ben can't go. We should of learned from last year, we can not take the risk again.
With this defense we should be playoff or Superbowl contenders ( if the O can improve even slightly), so add more ammo to the D by controlling the clock on O by being a strong running team.
2) Get a new punter, maybe I would even be willing to get the best punter in FA. Again add more ammo to this D, have teams pinned deep.
3) Go all in for BUD. He and Watt make a deadly duo, don't mess with that 1-2 punch and chemistry.
4) Our Cuts/FA, and (next man up)...
Cut :Barron ( Gilbert,Edmunds?, Davis), Foster ( Feiler), Mcdonald ( Vennett, best blocking TE in FA), Chicko ( Skipper/OLa )
OUR own FA: Let them to test the market ... Hargrave ( rookie/cheaper FA), Finney ( rookies) , Hilton place a 2nd round tender on him (Sutton/Davis )
I really want Hargrave, but he will be placed way out of price range, we should get a Comp 3rd back for him. Finney is the hardest one to let go, he is the main back up too all interior positions, but that is what he is a backup. Yes, that is right I have Davis listed. I think he would be cheap and a good back up to fill in the 3rd safety/ hybrid -ILB we cove/ nickle back. Who knows maybe having him with a S like Fitz does wonders for him. I am not sure who is better Edmunds or Davis...
Sign our FA: top 4 in this order to sign : Dupree, Feiler (as a Foster's replacement, have Banner/OKA at RT), Venette, Finney, Davis
Steeler bargain FA: if we can't sign Finney a back up center, depth on DL, blocking TE
Players I would love to have, but don't see it... Breida.
5) Draft: all picks in the trenches, that is where it all starts at, and we have no future, nor depth...let our present skill players develop more with the exception of TE ( past 3 drafts I wanted a stud TE in the first)
BPA in this order DL/C/G/TE
6) Trade I might entertain, one of our 4th rounders to Raiders for Moreou. ( strong blocker and etiquette receiver) Venette and Moreou make a good blocking/rceiving TE duo.
