I wonder how long the leash is with Rudolph at this point? It's just plain painful to watch.
Life after Ben isn’t so bad

Not gonna judge a QBs performance when his team can't RUN the ball and he's playing with a Group of WRs that aren't getting open.
Yes Rudolph has missed some open WRs over the season - that has to be expected.
Rudolph still has much to prove but one thing he has proven is he has potential - whether that is to be a FT starter is remaining to be seen.
I've seen many guys where you see them play a few quarters and you think "this guy just doesn't have it" - I don't think that's the case here. Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...

Steelers should be the first in line at the Kaepernick workout. Our offense has been putrid. I don't care who it is - we need something different!Comment

I’m sure the FO is going to give him as much leash as possible since we moved up to get him and he had “first round” talent.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind if he was suspended for a game so we can give Duck another look.Comment

That's a BIG No thanks. I'd MUCH rather see what Duck and Paxton can do. The media circus alone is enough to avoid Kaepernick. We've had enough circus around here to last a long time. Not to mention that he's just not very good.Comment

No... but it’s probably the only way we see Duck next week.
Mason DID try and fight Miles tho and tried to pull his helmet off so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did get a game although I doubt he will.
I turned from the game so I didn’t see the late hit. Just the brawl.Comment

If we're actually interested in winning this year (like the trade for Minkah suggests), it makes sense to go to the workout and see if he's still got what it takes to be at least an average QB.
We could sign him to something so he could prove it for the rest of this year and then be free to test the market when Ben comes back (do we have cap room?).
It's not like his stats from 2016 were stellar, but he was mobile (which we could use since our WRs don't seem to be good at catching).
But, my guess is that it might be moot because I think it's probably really hard to come back to starting in the NFL after being away for several years.
It's too bad we couldn't have picked up Hoyer or someone like him in the off season. He looked pretty good throwing passes against us. But, I think it made sense to try to keep both MR and Dobbs at the time. With Ben healthy, it made more sense to keep two mystery boxes instead of go for one "know it's OK, but not great" option and one mystery box.Comment

I could maybe see the league do something like that.
Throw the book at Garrett and give any Steeler that was involved a game.
I actually won't be surprised if Pouncey gets a pretty serious suspension. Kicking guys in the head is a big deal (especially since he wasn't really a threat at that point). And the league always wants to look like they care about head injuries.Comment

Early in the game they showed a stat on TV with numbers on the Steelers O and Rudolph. The O numbers were all around 27th, 28th etc. I said to my son that there was only one nice number up there: "4". That was the number of ints. Despite having garbage numbers personally, and for the O as a whole, at least he had been protecting the ball. That went out the window on Thursday and only a solid D kept the game within range through 3 quarters.
MR's worst trait IMO is his complete lack of pocket presence. Not only does he seem flat footed and still as the D line converges, but if he does slide it seems that he more often slides into pressure than away from it. I think that this is one of the things that Ben has always done so well that is overlooked in its impact on a play.Comment

I think he's had receivers open. You have a point on the lack of a running game -- that would've been a huge help to MR. And I hope he can yet pull it together. But so far, there are too many deficiencies showing up in his game for me to have much confidence that he will. Not gonna judge a QBs performance when his team can't RUN the ball and he's playing with a Group of WRs that aren't getting open.
