I think a few years of Tommy Maddox with this defense could yield some success.

Duck still reminds me of Bubby. I'd take that for the short term.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

      TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Some want "patience" but here is the reason I've given up:

He never even "flashes" potential. Even when he was not making mistakes and had an inflated QB rating, his COMPLETIONS werent indicative of his actual play. I said it at the time. Early on he had a mix of dump offs and bad passes that were completions when throwing mid range passes.

Take away dudes college numbers and never once did his play impress, even briefly in the NFL.

Bradshaw was an AWEFUL rookie. But at least he "flashed" his potential. TBs challenge in my view was he wasnt a "student". Therefore, it took YEARS of experience to learn to play smart.

Mason is the opposite... He IS a student who lacks presence, athleticism, accuracy beyond dump offs, timing, arm strength. 3rd stringer Paxon Lynch has "some" of those traits.

His gifts? Looks the part, and is supposed to be smart.

Given that strength, dude should have a shorter learning curve.

Just as the scouts foresaw, (which is why his first round college "numbers" produced a 3rd round pick) he is the epitome of a product of his college system, in a conference that routinely results in inflated QB number.
Scouts...looking at his actual "play" weren't impressed even in college with his skill set.
Seems like we were the only ones who had a first round grade on him.

Those of us who loved his numbers...now see why he lasted so long.

Landry Jones (same inflated college stats) showed more potential as a Steeler from day one than this guy.

Walter used to have his number in the white pages of the Pittsburgh phone book. No joke. No unlisted number. I remember hanging out in a hotel room before a game, and being bored, I paged though the phone book and saw it there. lol

Having the #6, I can see why we all think he's Bubby.

I actually think he looks like Skippy. Sort of resembles Reed. I think.

If Mason were a free agent from a small school like Duck, he would never progress beyond a PRACTICE SQUAD.

I'm not talking looks I'm talking demeanor.
I dont recall any rookie (including Ben) who had the same "I got this" swagger.

I see him as likely having a similar modest ceiling though too.

Duck might be a Fiztpatick 2.0 in reality.
                  Unlikely to be Brees 2.0

I'd take Fitz magic. But most QBs never turn out that well.
