"and things of that nature" would not be considered a cliche. It's more of a verbal tic, similar to "ya know?" or the famous Pittsburgh verbal tic "n'at." It's the way he talks, knaw what I'm sayin'?

"boomerang" is not a NFL cliche that I'm aware of. The way Tomlin used it was as a metaphor, which does not make it a cliche. My subjective opinion is that it's not a bad metaphor for describing situations in which a player will receive a second chance, and better be ready or its will be his last.

"unleash hell" - I'm sure Tomlin regrets this one, and has probably never used it again. Young coach learns his lesson about making predictions in the NFL. This seems to be very old news to be raised here continuously the way it is.

"defend every blade of grass" - this may be a NFL cliche, but I doubt it rises to that level. Whatever it is, seems pretty mundane, and hardly worthy of criticism.

The two Tomlin phrases that strangely neither of you cited are "the standard is the standard" and "next man up." The former may be a cliche now (and actually Tomlin may have invented it). It's also called a truism or tautology, which automatically makes it stupid to me, but by NFL standards, it's downright witty. "next man up" is probably the only consistent cliche I've seen Tomlin use.

Tough schedule is looking very true. And the AFC north is looking very bad at this point or the 9'ers are for real.
Only game with all the adversity so far this season that I hated to lose at home no less was the ratturds. Other then that the D was not ready or had all the pieces to challenge the pats. The Seattle game just had to much adversity to win. The 9'ers could be upper tier and they fought hard with no offense to win that game.

With a healthy Big Ben this season is very different IMO, but would the aggressive moves have been made I wonder. Can't expect the SB with basically a "rookie" back up QB. It is even hard to expect the playoffs with said QB. But this defense does inspire some hope. And now the 3rd string true rookie. Really? Playoffs?
Just like expectations were to high with a hot at times offense and below average defense IMO.

I know, so many teams lose their franchise QB and still have the SB aspirations. I'm sure GB would if they lost Rodgers, NO would if Brees is gone for the year, Seattle would if Wilson went down, the Rams would without Goff, and NE most certainly would with Brady on the sidelines.

Now, could a miracle happen like it did in Philly a couple of years ago. Sure, but it takes a lot of luck and have the ball bounce your way to do it without that franchise QB. Of course I'd hate to think what the Philly fans would have said about the coach if that 4th down play didn't work. I'm sure they would be calling for his head ... just like folks across the state are doing.

I've thought Tomlin is a good coach. Not a great one. My estimation of him has lowered in the last few years because he doesn't seem to be learning from his mistakes. His clock management hasn't gotten any better and neither has his challenges. For those and other reasons I wouldn't be upset if the Steelers tried to go in a different direction where I would have 3 or 4 years ago.

Colbert can and will put in the due diligence to find the proper (good) guy for the HC position.

Teams who keep wanting retread coaches from other teams seldom find the success they are looking for.

Now I'm not saying that means we don't look for a new coach. It just means that the odds of them being successful is not great. And by successful I mean pleasing to all of us Steeler fans.

I don't know; we've been pretty good at it so far. I trust in Colbert. Im not factoring in other teams failure track record in regards to finding a good head coach into our finding a good head coach. Most of those organizations are garbage and ours isn't.
