Washington Wants Tomlin

It looks like you misunderstood Oviedo's post.
I think he's saying that we had 6 win seasons with Cower in 1999 and 2003.
Then in the years after those two seasons, we won 9 games and 15 games.
I don't think he was predicting anything about what happens next year (which I think depends a lot on Ben and / or emergence of a good QB). Although he did say he'd like 15 wins.
Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say?
You are correct. I was just stating a fact highlighting with a 15 win season major improvements can occur. That you for actually reading the wordings."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

woulda if they hadn't hired Whiz and fired Arians smack in the middle of Ben's prime...

As usual, belittling of a point that you can't argue with. The goal is to have a trajectory towards a championship and ultimately win one. We are not on a trajectory towards one and Tomlin has shown with a great team, he's now not a good enough coach to get us one even if the team was talented enough. Meaning we are wasting our time with him.Comment

First off I don’t think we were going to win a SB with a healthy Ben because we lost too much on offense.
I was never convinced our OL was as good as the so called rankings kept implying. Pass blocking we are pretty good. Run blocking has always been weak when we really needed it vs good defenses.
That said... this defense is strong and it will be insane bu the years end.
If we can find ways to limit costly turnovers on offense I still think we can turn this around in short time.
Next year if Ben is back and we get another weapon at WR and someone to replace Foster I think we are a deep playoff team.Comment

Brainfart... and i meant Haley... sunnava...
anyway, I'll stand by that one forever. i think the OC and DC often make the HC look good...
We've all talked about how Cowher was a cheerleader. I think Tomlin is similar in many ways.
Dick Vermiel was a decent coach off and on for years... until he got Mike Martz at OC.
There are many examples (remember how Chan Gailey made Kordell successful?)2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

See, this is interesting.
What do you think makes a great team?
When do you think we were great?
How many teams do you think are great per year?
Do you think we were ever a favorite to win a SB because we were so much better than other playoff teams?Comment

those are actually fantastic questions.
My money would be on Brady and Co, annually for odds on favorites. And i would tend to lean towards teams with the best QBs... Saints, Packers and I'd throw the Chiefs in since Mahomes was mvp... at a minimum, we came into this season (minus AB and LB) at best 5th favorite. And that doesn't even include the Eagles and Rams who have pretty good young QBs.
IMO, there's ONE great team in this league and it's the one that is annually odds on favorites. After that, there are some really good teams (including the Steelers) that could win if things goe their way, or fall through for the Pats**2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Cohwer moved on because his wife was dying and wanted to be near his two daughters in college........maybe team altering. Players come and go from year to year, team makeup changes. Rooney's vision is probably much higher at the franchise level than a trade in a particular year. Culture, stability, loyalty. Those are franchise precepts. Canning or trading a top coach you just extended doesn't seem to fit these. Remember, he didn't force Cowher out, it was Cowher's decision to move on. Now,.... Chuck Noll, I'm not sure how that went down behind the scenes.... memory is getting a little murky that long ago.Comment

Wait a minute. This didnt start yesterday. He has been a Steeler for THIRTEEN YEARS received SEVERAL extensions. You call him a grade "C" coach.Cap, the Rooney's are a class act. They gave Tomlin a one year "prove it to me " extension. I love them for that because it was the right thing to do. Now, when he's dismissed, he has two years salary still on the books unless he takes a head coaching job somewhere else.
That's why when someone asked you what is the one thing Tomlin does well, you said , " he wins". "Wins" being the regular season. But the last 10 games, he's not even doing that. Because Tomlin doesn't do ANYTHING well. You can't name a facet of coaching that he does well; not even his expertise of secondary coaching. He's not even trusted to hire and fire assistant coaches. He's not a real coach and has never been a real coach..that's why he doesn't do any one thing well.
Colbert is one of the best GM's in football. I have total confidence in him to find our next head coach. I"m puzzled at so many posters who have pounded the table about how good Colbert is but then turn around and say he can't find another head coach.
So the Rooneys are so inept the hired a "grade C" coach who is the SECOND HIGHEST TENURED HEAD COACH IN THE LEAGUE.
And you are telling me that people so stupid to hire and keep a below average coach for longer than any team save for the Pats.....inspire confidence in their coaching judgement?
The only logical basis for "trusting" the Rooneys to hit the mark on the NEXT guy is to believe they made the right call on the LAST guy.
Your argument implies that not only are the Rooneys inept in HIRING Tomlin. They we too dumb to recognize he was a terrible coach who is the only piece keeping Ben's Steelers from being a stinkin dynasty.
How can you make a case that we should be confident in the NEXT coach hire?
You just made clear they are incapable of knowing a bad coach from a good one.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Let's take the 2017 year.
13-3. And losing to Jacksonville at home...twice..and the last one in the playoffs. Letting blake bortles look like Tom Brady in the 4th quarter and scoring 17 points. No excuse for that year.
I could site some other years but that one right off the top of my head.Comment
