In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher -
looks like all the talk of how deep and valuable the steelers WR group are was a tad overblown
they may cycle back and add a 6th but the quality depth was never as good as some made out
you can add guys like Spencer and Holton every year and Ben will make them look goodComment

may consider waiting until we get into the regular season before we make that call for certainlooks like all the talk of how deep and valuable the steelers WR group are was a tad overblown

wait and see for what? they only kept 5 guys which tells me all I need to know. people here were claiming eli Rogers was some kind of trade bait when there are eli Rogers in every camp around the league
keeping only 5 is proof that the WR corp was overvalued here. it's a good group but hardly a great one with all this quality depth talk that got thrown aroundComment

I agree. Rogers has a little AB in him. I don’t get the love for Switzer as a returner, which is his edge over Rogers.
I’d go with Spencer as a returner as priority over either of the other 2. Once the rookie gets going you think we see Switzer or Rogers as a receiver?
I’d keep 6 (rumor is Holton comes back anyway soon as we put someone on ir )
If we kept Spencer and Holton:
We’d still be 4 deep in pure receivers, have a legit return specialist, and a great gunner with size and speed as a deep threat.
Blew it with Spencer, but I do hope we are planning to bring Holton up as rumored.sigpic

Perhaps keeping just 5 is proof that they believe they have 5 legit NFL wideouts and can afford to not keep a 6th WR on the 53 man roster, which thereby allows us to keep 10 LB and 10 DB.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

If we had Swann, Stallworth, Hines, Brown, and Juju.....only 5 receivers.....I’d say it was deep.

they have 1 legit WR and 4 question marks
it isn't hard to figure out
actually they know what switzer is and if you consider him a legit NFL WR then I have some beachfront property outside Phoenix I can let go cheapLast edited by Eddie Spaghetti; 09-02-2019, 12:22 PM.Comment

I think keeping 5 might be a sign that we thought our depth was good. If we would have been comfortable putting WRs 6 - 8/9 on the field if someone got hurt, then we can cut them all knowing that at least a few of them are going to make it to the practice squad.
If we felt we only had one more viable option, maybe we would have felt compelled to keep him on the 53 so he didn't get snatched up.Comment

Wow eddie. Your really down on the WR corps. Hopefully they'll make you change your mind soon.Comment

never said I was down on them but you always seem to read things funny
I said they are question marks and that I thought the gushing over them on this site was a little over the top and perhaps premature. the eli Rogers as trade bait was especially so
I think it will be a successful group because #7 is throwing them the football just like it's always been
if Washington and Johnson re the real thing we will be set going forward, but right now they are unprovenComment
