You can cut Moncrief without it adversely impacting the cap. He's going to be cut next year anyway. And you actually save a bit on this year's cap. His base this year is just $1.5 million. Not a huge savings, but the sooner you cut him, the sooner you save.
Cut him and bring back Eli. Or if you want a bigger body, see if Crabtree or Michael Floyd will take the minimum. Or give Tevin Jones a shot. Doesn't really matter. Get somebody else in and do it now - let them start to learn the playbook, as opposed to waiting until week 10.Comment

As soon as the Fort news became public, my initial response was to cut Moncrief, bring back Eli Rogers, gain 3rd round pick next year. So I agree with you there.
According to Depot, after the Eagles cut LJ Fort the Steelers 3rd round pick is void. But, it seems they can get it back by cutting Mongrief by week 10. Pressure is on for the Grief.
My post above was in response to a statement that our coaches were continuing to let Moncrief back out there when he continues to be a liability. Seemed to me like our coaches' response to his poor play early on was pretty much the appropriate reaction.Comment

FWIW from Asked and Answered on Steelers.com
CHRIS GARCIA FROM HOUSTON, TX: Will the Steelers release Donte Moncrief to ensure they get that third-round compensatory pick?
ANSWER: If the Steelers decide to release Donte Moncrief, it will be because they believe they can replace him with a better alternative on the 53-man roster. I can guarantee you the Steelers are not thinking about compensatory draft picks in 2020 during the fifth week of an NFL regular season in 2019.Comment

How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?Comment

I assumed this would be the response and approach from the team. Disappointing, but predictable.
And I understand wanting to surround Rudolph with credible NFL talent for the purposes of evaluating him. But Moncrief is not a difference maker - well, unless you count him turning catchable balls into picks. And this team has a lot of holes and very limited draft capital.Comment

"Yep, we've got Cut Montcrief on for that Saturday in our Google Calendars. Got to make sure we get that pick. Don't tell Montcrief we said that though...might drop his morale if he knew we didn't have any faith in him (get it...drop his morale). And if his morale drops, it might spread to the team...like catching a cold (get it again, catching). We want to make it seem like he's got a chance to earn his job back so players see that we give players chances to redeem themselves."Comment
