He had an awful debut game with four drops. It was horrendous, but it was one game. Got to give the dude another chance.

Then when he dropped Mason Rudolph's first pass against Seattle, resulting in an INT, he rode pine for the rest of the game.

He watched the game against the Niners in street clothes.

He got a helmet against Cincy, but only saw the field for a grand total of 3 offensive snaps and wasn't targeted all night.

Damn this coaching staff for continuing to let him back out there when he continues to be a liability!
I'm fine with how the coaching staff handled Moncrief. But now that things have changed in the comp formula with Fort being released, I think the FO needs to step in and cut the cord. Given his salary and the team's cap position, there is no chance he is back next year. So the question is would you trade a third round comp pick, or even a fourth, for 12 games of Moncrief? I certainly would not.

As soon as the Fort news became public, my initial response was to cut Moncrief, bring back Eli Rogers, gain 3rd round pick next year. So I agree with you there.

According to Depot, after the Eagles cut LJ Fort the Steelers 3rd round pick is void. But, it seems they can get it back by cutting Mongrief by week 10. Pressure is on for the Grief.

My post above was in response to a statement that our coaches were continuing to let Moncrief back out there when he continues to be a liability. Seemed to me like our coaches' response to his poor play early on was pretty much the appropriate reaction.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

But your coach isn't trying to get that comp pick back and he isn't trying to make the wr corp stronger. All he did was bench him.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

It’s a long season. Probably want to wait a few weeks to see if he responds to adversity or maybe it’s just insurance short term.

Knock on wood but what If JuJu or Johnson get hurt in the next few weeks???

Is there a deadline for comp picks? Maybe we cut him right before that date?

It would have to be done by week 10. We are still a long way from week 10.

What's the urgency? They can keep Moncrief around for a month and a half before making a decision. You really don't know what Tomlin is or isn't doing.

A lot of football left. Who knows how it plays out. Might as well keep him on the roster in case someone else gets injured.

Maybe he bounces back? If not, cut him week 9.

philly pointed out earlier that if he were to get injured we wouldn t be able to cut him

I agree w him that moncrief isn't worth that risk. this team needs every godamn bit of draft capital it can get its hands on

im amazed that people still want him on the team

I'm not reading people 'want him on the team'. I am reading people think there is no rush to cut him. And the injury risk is overblown, since he is barely making the field each week.

risk is risk. players get hurt all the time in practice

are you bringing him back next year at what he would make? I wouldn't, so really is whatever you get from moncrief in a down year with a back up QB worth a 3rd round pick? for me that's a resounding no

Why not cut him now? Surely there is someone out there who can catch a football better than what we've seen of this dud? Eli Rogers? Damoun Patterson? Michael Crabtee? Darrius Heyward-Bey? Some WR that the Pats cut in the last few years? Just get the current list of unsigned free agents, grab one who appears to be able to catch a football. Isn't that all we did when we signed Mongrief to begin with?

If there were no cap penalties it might be that easy, but there is.

They might as well sign me. I mean if you want to pay someone to drop footballs, I'm your guy.

No need to cut ties so early. There is time. If someone else can be found between now and then (and can catch), so be it. Otherwise, keep Moncrief around until week 9 1/2 and then ...
