The STEELERS had a FIRST ROUND grade on RUDOLPH - plus DOBBS played his way onto the team last preseason.
Having said that - if they stuck with JONES for four years I'm certain they will do the same with these 2.

I'm banking on the fact that BEN plays 2 more seasons - sometime in the next two years either DOBBS or RUDOLPH will have a chance to be his replacement - OR neither will show promise and the STEELERS will drop them like they did JONES

Until he proves otherwise, I'm betting Rudolph follows Ben. I'm not counting on Dobbs for anything

For goodness sakes, they put Nix in at fullback on the goal line and Ridley basically walked into the end zone, you can use that play at midfield as well. Then, later in the game in a goal to go situation, they didn't run the play again. sometime you just have to say, we're running the ball and you can't stop us.

I was disappointed with Fichtner's plan once Dobbs was put in. I don't recall the number exactly, but I believe Dobbs was able to extend two plays for 1st downs with his feet. They should have designed plays for Dobbs that allow him to use his feet and athleticism. No team is game planning against us with the fear of Ben running. If we find ourselves in a situation where Dobbs is forced in to the game, they need to have a set of plays that in no way the defense is prepared for. Designed runs, quick reads with an option to run, something that adds a different wrinkle that the defense hasn't spent a week preparing for.

i have seen plenty of runs stop cold and drives end because of that...not sure what games you are watching..........you have to pass to be able to run......when the other team respects your throws then your able to
          run......

man, if only there was someone to veto all the passing and insist we play some smash mouth, physical football, especially against the couple worst run defenses in the league...

remember how laundry jones was bens successor? most 'fans' loved the pick(of course they wont remember that and ask for thread proof)
then they loved the rudolph pick(said he was first round material) and the first round is were you get your franchise qbs
plenty liked the dobbs pick too
              so, we are all set

Jones was never Ben's successor and I can't recall many who said he was but keep hanging onto to that illusion.

Don’t the Steelers at least owe it to themselves to see if Rudolph is the next QB? You spend a 3rd round pick on the guy, you ,may as well shake it out & see...

Dobbs looks like a career #2, which is fine. If he can “Charlie Batch” his career & be a somewhat reliable, don’t lose the game type QB- you have what you need there.

Once Ben goes, it’s probably a good idea to bring in a vet to ‘compete’ with Rudolph but hope he gets beaten. Otherwise, you draft QB the following year.

All this, of course, only counts if Rudolph doesn’t stink in training all year & we’ve not heard about it...

For the record- Landry Jones was a reasonable #2 QB. The hate for him in here was pretty unreasonable.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

Agreed. They put Dobbs into the game and tried to have him run the game plan that they put together for Ben. There should be a plan if Dobbs has to enter the game that is quite different than Ben's.

It appeared to me they did change the gameplan up with Dobbs. He lined up under center for the most part...and they became very predictable in the 2nd half.

I just expected easy completions, backs, TEs, even draw plays, or RPO without the pass option, let him use his young feet, I don't know, it just seemed he wasn't in a position to win each down.

There's a search function in the forum, isn't there. You should be able to find plenty of comments claiming Jones was Ben's successor. Since "most" fans thought so.
In response to his pleas, an officer said: "You think we've never arrested somebody that's made national media? ... We deal with the Bengals all the time."
