Got a question for everyone. We need to find our qb of the future in the very near future. With that said, do we trust that Fitchner can develope a qb?

I agree, probably not Rudolph. I’ll wave my homer flag because I like this guy so much. Dwayne Haskins of tOSU is the best Qb in school history. In fact, I haven’t seen this much natural throwing talent since scouting out Mahomes. Zero doubt in my mind, if he stays healthy he’s a franchise Qb. He’s about as close to a sure thing as I’ve seen.Trolls are people too.Comment

You don’t have to look very far. If available Dwayne Haskins would be a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. Unbelievable accuracy, poise and a cannon of an arm. The selfish side of me wants him to return to Ohio State for another year but he’d look great in the Black and Gold.Comment

I agree on Haskins, but I think he'll be gone before we pick; he's climbing the boards right now. With teams like OAK, NYG, CIN and maybe one more drafting before us, I'm not sure he is still on the board when PIT is on the clock. You don’t have to look very far. Also, it would depend on FA signings. We clearly have gaping holes in our defense. Even if Haskins or someone like that were to fall to us, unless we've already addressed some of the glaring defensive needs with the added cap space we'll have, it will be hard to argue for any offensive position over the defensive needs.Comment

If Ben comes back I don’t see them picking a QB in rd 1. They are going to see what they have with Rudolph after a season in the system plus a full off-season of OTAs and required training and then a second training camp. We’re losing close games with a HOF QB. A rookie won’t make a difference. Unfortunately they missed on multiple first round D guys and must address either secondary or LB. The window is closing. I think you need a win now mentality.sigpicComment

I agree. Ben is not our problem. Sure he makes decisions that frustrate the hell out of us, but there are plenty of times where those decisions pay off as well. He's been doing that his whole career. If he commits to coming back, we cannot afford to spend early picks on a QB. The defense needs addressed through a combination of draft and FA signings. I know FA signings are not historically our approach, but we have money to spend and holes to fill.If Ben comes back I don’t see them picking a QB in rd 1. My only concern is we have struck out so many times on defensive picks that I don't trust the Steelers brass in evaluating defensive talent. It's why now more than ever, I'm in favor of finding proven FA's as much as young lesser known talents.Comment

I heard a guy say he thinks only one QB would go in the first round. I can't remember the last time that happened. But it does indicate a down year in the QB market.Comment

I agree that Rudolph / Dobbs should get a year or two when Ben hangs them up.
That way we'll either (1) see if either are legit or (2) be terrible and have a better shot at drafting the next QB.
This is why I was against drafting both Dobbs and Rudolph. I think we should have been trying to use earlier picks to draft guys who can contribute when Ben's around, then tank for a bit to have a better shot at getting the next franchise QB.Comment

It's probably too harsh, but I think Fichtner was hired to be Ben's yes man.
I think it's crazy that we don't have a QB coach when we're trying to develop two young QBs to take the reins. We should hire one of these today...maybe they can double as a time management guru on Sundays.Comment

Right now Fichtner's problem is his game plan and play calling, too many passes and too few runs. The Steelers have run the ball on average 15 times per game in the last 4 games and are a Jaguar miracle away from being 0-4 during that stretch. The Steelers have not been behind at all in these games, so why all the passing? Running the football is a mindset and requires commitment, the Steelers haven't had either for 4 games.
For goodness sakes, they put Nix in at fullback on the goal line and Ridley basically walked into the end zone, you can use that play at midfield as well. Then, later in the game in a goal to go situation, they didn't run the play again. sometime you just have to say, we're running the ball and you can't stop us.

My God Pappy; Testosterone like that hasn't been displayed around here in a long time. What's wrong with you?
