    It's Browns Week!

Looks like Todd Haley might be stripped of his playcalling duties in advance of his return to Heinz Field

Hue Jackson doesn’t rule out taking back play calling

Posted by Charean Williams on October 21, 2018, 8:40 PM EDT

Hue Jackson didn’t rule out taking back the play-calling duties after the Browns gained 305 yards in 68 minutes, 10 seconds Sunday. That likely won’t sit well with first-year offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

“It’s not going to be about butting heads,” Jackson said when asked about the possibility, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I’m the head coach of the football team. I will do what I feel I need to do to get this team where it needs to be.”

Jackson became testy when pressed further on the issue.

“I’m the head coach of the football team, period. Period,” Jackson said. “There’s nothing else that needs to be said. Nothing. I’m the head coach of the football team.”

Haley has called all the plays this season, Jackson confirmed. Jackson, though, made no promises about next week when the Browns play at Pittsburgh, where Haley spent the previous six seasons as the Steelers’ offensive coordinator, or beyond.

Cleveland went without an official offensive coordinator in the first two seasons after Jackson took over as head coach, with Jackson serving in both roles. Jackson promised Haley “total autonomy” when the Browns hired Haley in the spring.

“Yeah, I mean, I’ve been respectful,” Jackson said. “That’s why you bring guys in and you make them the coordinator. Again, there are some things we’ve got to fix fast to get this thing back to where it needs to be.”

The Browns entered the game ranked 20th in total offense, including 23rd in passing.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I guess Hue is thinking, " I'f I'm going to be fired, I might as well go down calling the plays."

He may be saying this to try to keep us off-balance. Hue may be thinking if Haley calls the plays we may feel like we know what to expect.

Does this feel like it could be a trap game for us?

I know we won after the bye last year, but we've been losing after bye weeks for several years in a row before that. And we might be looking ahead to Baltimore? After all we have gone on record in the past talking about NE when we were playing Jax. Cleveland feels like a team we could overlook.

I think that tie left a bad taste in everyones mouth...not sure they will overlook the browns with the way the browns defense has been playing and with how they seemingly take teams to OT every week

Despite not winning much, the Browns look pretty good this year. And they tied us in game one.

If they beat us, I think it's because they aren't actually kind of good. Not because we were looking ahead or something.

I think because of the outcomes of this past weekend's games the Steelers are going to be amped to stay in first place and win this game easily, it's at home and the Brown's are basically in desperation mode (going 2-5-1 will be an uphill fight).

The Steelers will also be wearing their 70’s throwback uniforms where the lettering and numbers were block style. Not that that has anything to do with play but I think they will look great both asthetically and with their play.

Hue Jackson: I never said I was taking over offensive playcalling

Posted by Josh Alper on October 22, 2018, 2:52 PM EDT

Browns coach Hue Jackson hired Todd Haley as the team’s offensive coordinator this offseason and gave him control of the team’s playcalling after handling it himself the last two years.

That made it notable that Jackson said he feels a need to be more involved in the offense after Sunday’s overtime loss to the Buccaneers. On Monday, Jackson revisited those comments and explained that he is not planning to take back control of the playbook from Haley.

“I never said I would take over the playcalling,” Jackson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I said I needed to help. I have to be careful not to get too frustrated too.”

Jackson said that Haley is “very open” to his plan to infuse himself into the offensive staff’s work, which is something Haley would have to say if he’s going to avoid losing his job or creating a contentious work environment with the guy above him in the team’s hierarchy. We’ll see how the new arrangement is working when the Browns travel to Pittsburgh in Week Eight.

Almost feel sorry for the Browns this season- definitely playing better than their record suggests. Also, feel pretty bad for Haley if this is true- moulding a new offense together from scratch, keeping a team used to losing in every contest...it’s not the worst performance Chadman has seen.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

                        Light up the darkness.

Our first trip through the division was 1-1-1. No way this is a trap game.

Browns are a very competitive football team with a pile of young talent. They could just as easily be 1st in the division right now... pending a few FGs.
