They seem to have always had an affection for big, physical guys who can play the run. I too thought Burns was overdrafted - he was like, the 5th or 6th best corner advertised in that draft because I remember reading about him. I was surprised they drafted him so high. I guess they went into a tailspin after the Bengals snagged Jackson Jr.
It really may be a coaching problem too. They write the book on drafting and developing offensive linemen and wide receivers but have had top notch positional coaches as well. Some guys just are beyond great coaching, as may be the case with burns, but i guess when you think about the truly elite corners how many of them have the steelers actually had a shot at drafting?

Ramsey, Rhodes, Peters, Peterson, Jones, and Lattimore are about 5 of the top 10 best corners in the league and they were all gone well before the steelers picked in those drafts.

handful of late round/undrafted gems in the league like bouye, norman and a few mid round guys like slay, sherm, and hayward but the vast majority of the top CBs seem to be high picks...even next tier guys like will jackson, des trufant, etc...

They took a shot with Burns, they previously took some shots with Curtis Brown and Cortez Allen that ultimately set the secondary back years but really you see guys like Bouye/Norman/Hayward hit the open market and get top dollar and while any of them would be nice at least we didnt give someone like Byron Maxwell to a $63 million deal like the eagles did, they waited until an actual top talent hit the market and actually wanted to sign with them in Haden

To help him mentally and for the long term he probably needs to sit for awhile. Even Cowher benched Ike, IIRC.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

This is an example of text book CB play on the ball. Stays with his man, watches for the WR hands coming up, turns head, and easy INT:

Steelers think they can get Artie Burns going during bye week

Posted by Josh Alper on October 17, 2018, 6:26 AM EDT

The Steelers allowed a season-low 275 yards to the Bengals in their 28-21 Week Six victory and they allowed a season-low 17 points in their Week Five win over the Falcons, so their defense has been taking steps in the right direction after a 1-2-1 start to the year.

That turn has taken place at the same time as a drop in cornerback Artie Burns‘ playing time. He was on the field for nearly every snap in the first two weeks of the season and 68 percent of the snaps in Week Four, but was down to less than half the snaps against the Bengals last weekend.

Burns said “it’s their decision” and little else when asked about the change in fortunes on Tuesday, but defensive backs coach Tom Bradley was a bit more forthcoming. He said Burns needs to be more consistent and that he feels the team can fix the mental and physical errors that have hampered the corner this season.

“It’s always a little bit of both as you get out there,” Bradley said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Playing corner is a little different. Confidence has a shelf life that needs to be replenished. But he’ll be fine. … We’ll get him going here. I’m not worried about Artie now.”

The Steelers will return with games against the Browns and Ravens. They were 0-1-1 in their first meetings with their AFC North rivals and making their record 2-1-1 would be a big boost toward another division title. The playing time Burns gets against Cleveland will be a good sign of whether the Steelers think the 2016 first-round pick can help on that front.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I know switching positions isn't something that typically happens successfully in the NFL.

Uhh, did you watch the Boyd TD against him? Burns was essentially playing safety in the EZ and barely reacted to the receiver. Steelers are struggling to admit they have another 1st rd miss.

Gotta put this out there; in light of what we have ( or don’t have) in burns , is it in the realm of reality that management uses free agency just for adding one legit cornerback?
