    Artie Burns

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Bud Dupree now has more 3X more passes defensed than Artie Burns. Burns' EZ play yesterday has to go down as one of the saddest CB displays in recent memory. The guy has either completely lost confidence in his game, or he has no feel for this defense.
What is surprising is the coaches continue to give him chance after chance and Burns just can't seem to put it together. With Burns in the backfield I have a hard time seeing how the Steelers defense is playoff caliber. Am I missing something that others are seeing with Burns?

I think you're seeing how gawdawful his replacements are. To me, that means Sutton and Sensabaugh. I agree that this position is so deficient that it is hard to imagine us making a serious run.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

I was dead wrong on William Jackson - had no idea who Artie Burns was when they drafted him but was happy it wasn't William Jackson.
However William Jackson might have sucked just as bad. Carnell Lake has failed more often than not.

        From the Fittipaldo chat:

“So what was up with Burns on the Bengals TD before the half - just a lack of focus? How is he giving him that much room there?”

Ray Fittipaldo: Did you see what Tyler Boyd told me after the game? He said as soon as he saw where Burns was aligned he knew it was a touchdown. He was so far off the line of scrimmage. Has to be a mental mistake. There is no way his coaches teach him to line up there.

The worst part about Burns is instead of having this position filled with a 1st rd pick; it's yet another hole that has to be filled. First round failures kill.

I know that we will not be winning anything but you just enjoy what we can. When you have clowns in the defense, you have to be realistic and put your "fan heart" aside. A lot of fans can't do that. And I get that.

That’s pretty telling right there. Burns looks totally lost in coverage and it seems to be getting worse each week.

Burns Draft profile: While his tape is average and technique can be non*existent at times, NFL teams often draft on traits at the cornerback spot and assume that coaching will take care of the rest.

nonexistent technique? Could have fooled us.

Whatever confidence Burns had has to be shot. His tech is awful. Year 3 is the year or not. Sadly not. Sutton today I would say has to start till Burns shows something perhaps if he shows something.

been saying it for 2 years now, he looks just like cortez allen did....looks the part, has all the tools you want in a corner but his awareness is just down right terrible. Hes got size, length, speed, quickness but he cant get a feel for both the receiver or the ball. Any great CB throughout history just had a sense of positioning, can turn their back to the receiver completely and still know where they are. Burns has nothing of the sorts.

Easy to say this about any failed CB...but safety? lol

With his size, speed, quickness and lack of awareness I wonder if he could play safety because he doesn't have to turn his back to the game. He can back pedal, face the game and use his athleticism to break on the ball, the entire field would be in front of him. I know switching positions isn't something that typically happens successfully in the NFL.

Giants just cut their first round pick, just saying....
Stop blitzing Hilton and give him a shot..
Sensabaugh is as bad as Artie Burned.

I mean Byron Jones was an OK safety for the cowboys and now he looks like an excellent corner. Helped him learning how to make calls and really see the defense. Just kind of spit balling the idea because as a last ditch effort you see tackles move to guard and cornerbacks move to safety to salvage their careers.

Theres more to it, but it happens

I have heard it before and I'll say it again, Steelers just do no have a niche for drafting DB's, especially corners. I don't know what it is? They seem to have always had an affection for big, physical guys who can play the run. I too thought Burns was overdrafted - he was like, the 5th or 6th best corner advertised in that draft because I remember reading about him. I was surprised they drafted him so high. I guess they went into a tailspin after the Bengals snagged Jackson Jr.
