Bell...AGAIN!

That's why our front office's strategy has always been "best player available at a position of need."Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

I'm simply saying that, IF there is no defender on the board that the Steelers covet, but there is a highly rated offensive player, I believe it is foolish not to draft the higher rated player...I would hate for the team to overdraft a second round caliber player at pick #28 because fans think they need a safety or an ILB...
This is why the Steelers signed Jon Bostic and Morgan Burnett this offseason...those guys are capable starters...solid, but not spectacular...therefore the team doesn't have to lock in on a particular position and can upgrade one of any number of positions by drafting a quality player...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Both have to be considered before making a move.
If a QB is the highest player on the board at 28 and we go ILB or TE... I’m sure no one would say it was a mistake since we still have Ben.Steelers 27

Why do people insist on going to extremes? Of course there is some kind of balance between the two...

Was Dobbs the highest player rated in the 4th rd? Maybe... but maybe not.Steelers 27

but what about the 'steelers always draft bpa.....ahem, at a position of need"steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clownComment

I guess that’s the rub...because if Ben retires after this year and that QB taken after #28 develops into a franchise QB, there will be NO END to the questioning...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Let’s say at #28, there is a defender with a high 2nd round grade and an offensive player with a high first round grade that happened to drop...would you pass on a guy you thought could be the next DeCastro or Faneca to draft a second day safety?
Keep in mind that Ramon Foster is 32 and in the final year of his contract...
I believe that you fill holes in FA and build the team through the draft....Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Their philosophy is BPA & if the grade is close at a position of "want" they go with that. Similar to Watt last year. No High-Mid 1st fell. Watt High-Mid 2nd not making it to second pick. Reid could be similar case this year. He's a high-mid 2nd IMO. ILB gone...No faller or mid grade 1st..He could be pick.
If Vea, Payne, Landry, Wynn, Daniels, Williams, Hernandez, Alexander, Jackson, Guice there if ILB Gone & grade is clear drop off to Reid...Pick one of above. Safety deep...Don't reach. Can not pass on talent in first especially drafting consistently in playoff pool.
Personally...I'm not feeling Int OL except if Nelson fell. But if Vea, Payne, Landry, Alexander, Jackson, or Guice are there with LVE-Evans gone...There's to big of a gap to me for Reid or Bates.Last edited by JUST-PLAIN-NASTY; 04-19-2018, 08:45 AM.Comment

For me, first round is all about getting a contribution THIS year. I think our FO believes we can win a SB in the next year or 2.
After that it's rebuild time. I would be shocked if we went QB in round one.Steelers 27

As I asked earlier, if a guy like Quenton Nelson happens to fall (unlikely, but so was DeCastro) and you think that player is a perennial All-Pro instead of a “contributor”, I think you don’t pass him up...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

I agree...unless there is a high-mid 1st round pick that falls...

They would be waiting at the podium with Nelson's name on the card as the announce 27!Comment
