People still defending Bell. It is a comedy. He is still the same egotistical, delusional individual he has been. The three years of being ranked at the bottom of the NFL for running backs has not chastened him. He blames the Jets play calling for his woes in NY. He says the only difference between what happened from, his best years with the Steelers and the woeful 3.2 yards per carry with the Jets, and the leftover touches in KC, was the Steelers gave him the opportunity and he hasn't had that since he left.
He actually had 245 carries in 2019, which was 11th in the NFL. I think that is a lot of opportunities. But a lot of those plays were "dives" the way he described it. Which I guess means runs not designed to get a lot. He simply still believes, and apparently some of his steady fans, also believe that he is still an elite running back. He is no where near that of course. He promises that this year he is going to have a great season and show everybody. If you look back through this lengthy thread, he made similar promises for 2019 and 2020. See pages 73 and 155.
Didn't happen, no where near happened. Won't happen next year. He implies he needs to get a team that will give him his desired Pittsburgh era league high touches to be successful. There is no such team that will give him that. Not to a 30-year back who most recently has been averaging low 3s and has not had a run longer than 19 yards since 2017.
He says he will sign when he is ready and not be rushed into something, I guess like he was when he signed with the Jets and KC. Also implying that he can choose where he goes and when he wants to go there. I don't think he hold all the cards and has the control to sign to a team of his liking. He doesn't say whether has been presented with a raft of offers from different teams to sort through. Probably hasn't, but he kind of makes it sound that way.
Bell's story is rather unusual. From a guy who was setting a torrid pace of production early in his career, to this fading, unaware kook. Are there still those who want him back on the Steelers?Comment

I think he's regressed a lot since he left us, and that that regression started in his last year in Pit but was mostly masked by a huge volume of touches.
I think the think that made him elite was a something like combination of acceleration, vision, and patience. And my guess is that doesn't work when the acceleration starts to decline...which I think is what has been happening to him.
But I was also surprised to learn that his success rate was still pretty high (I think NC posted that here first?). Maybe that suggests that there is a niche for Bell where he can still be very successful. His biggest problem IMO is that he doesn't get explosive plays because he's not NFL fast. But maybe that doesn't matter so much for those "dive" type plays.
We certainly could have used someone that could pick up a yard or two in critical situations. But I don't know if that's Bell or not.
And it's kind of a moot point IMO, because I don't think he'd come back to us for the minimum unless it was the only deal that was available to him. And I'm sure there are still plenty of teams that would pay him as little as possible to play.Comment

Le’Veon Bell hits back at critics on Twitter, makes big promise for 2021
May 28, 2021
by Steve DelVecchio
Le’Veon Bell was once considered the most dangerous all-around offensive player in the NFL, but he has not been the same since the final season he played with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017. The veteran running back says that is going to change this season.
Bell, who rushed for less than 400 yards in time spent between the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs last year, took to Twitter on Thursday with a simple message.
Of course, that brief tweet served as a rallying cry for the trolls. One of Bell’s followers pointed out that he should have signed a contract with the Steelers rather than sitting out the entire 2018 season, to which Bell replied, “they should’ve paid me what I wanted when they had the chance.” Others mentioned how he was a bust with the Jets, and Bell wasn’t about to shoulder that blame, either.
Bell may have also expressed some frustration with the Chiefs. The free agent said he is taking his time choosing a new team because he was misled in the past about what his role would be.
That was obviously another shot at the Jets, but it would not be a surprise if Bell felt the same about the Chiefs. Bell barely got the ball in Kansas City even when starting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire went down with an injury.
This isn’t the first time Bell has shot back at his critics on Twitter, but he needs to stop making excuses. Even if Adam Gase was at fault for a lot of what happened in New York, Bell has essentially become irrelevant. Only he can find a way to change that.

I think Bell still has some game left in him. He is better than the backups the Steelers have. I don't believe the Steelers are interested at this point. Never know what will happen though.Comment

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

I wouldn't want him anywhere near Najee Harris or any other young player on our team
Hope he never plays again"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

There is nothing to say about him really. He has egg on his face and he knows that we all know he does. He can take all the time he wants because he doesn’t seem wanted anywhere.Comment

What is the best case scenario for a team? They invite Bell in for a tryout. They decide that maybe he does have a little bit of tread left on the tires so they figure they'll gamble on signing him for a year. They approach his agent and ask what he would be looking for to sign for one year, the response...$10M? $12M? Some other outlandish amount? FWIW I'd rather gamble on bringing Kallen Ballage into camp.Comment

Not really, Bell wanted to get his money and he got it, not sure why he would have egg on his face.Comment

Why? He didn't even ask for an outrageous amount when he was the top back in the league. His beef was with the guaranteed money, Steeler fans have created this idea that he way over values himself, but what he wanted was in line with what the other top backs were getting.Comment
