i havent seen the deal.. but im assuming Zeke being declared on here as "the richest RB in history" to be true.. and if thats the case.. the Jets must have lowballed Bell also..
I’m talking about the offer from the team that drafted him.

Obviously siting our hurt Bell more than expected but remember he is on a 4 year deal that has incentives that can get him up to 15 mill per year.

      I really don’t think
i agree with his sitting out likely hurting more than expected.

I think it’s pretty normal for one of the best players on your offense to make close to $100 mill in today’s NFL.

Not sure why people will follow this signing. In 2 years these numbers will look regular compared to the next wave of contracts.
Teams will follow this signing because the Cowboys paid starting QB money to a RB, a high-risk position on the offense, a position that meets defensive contact on nearly every play they touch the ball. Because of the money he is making, the Cowboys will feel obligated to feed him the ball even more than they do already, thus increasing injury risk. The Steelers know all too well what happens when you make one player too much a part of the offense. It's ended badly twice.

I’ll have to check. I’m not sure the last 10 super bowl winners had RB as one of the highest paid players on the team. However those teams are the exception. Normally teams don’t win the Super Bowl.

Steelers didn’t low ball Bell. That’s preposterous.

Le’Veon Bell set to reach 8,000 scrimmage yards in 63 games, fastest ever

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 4, 2019

When Jets running back Le'Veon Bell plays his first game as a Jet on Sunday, it will be the 63rd game of his career. And he’ll almost certainly do something no player in NFL history has done in his first 63 games.

Bell is set to reach 8,000 career yards from scrimmage, and by doing it he’ll be the fastest player ever to get to that mark. Bell currently has 7,996 yards from scrimmage, so he’ll most likely top 8,000 on his first touch.

Eric Dickerson currently owns the distinction of the fastest player to 8,000 yards from scrimmage. Dickerson did it in his 64th game.

After Dickerson, the fastest players to get to 8,000 yards were Edgerrin James and LaDainian Tomlinson in 65 games, Jim Brown in 67 games and Marcus Allen in 68 games.

                        Bell is a special talent.

But, I don't think it would have been a good idea to shovel money at him after a steep drop in YPC.

I think that giving him a huge contract (or at least him agreeing to sign the huge contract we offered him) would have been paying him for for past performance vs. performance in that contract.

Even then, maybe it would have been worth it with Ben ending his career. Kill the cap for the end of the franchise QB, suck for a few years with a bunch of dead money. Accrue lots of high picks and hopefully rebuild. But that's not how the Steelers do business.

But, instead he turned down a huge offer from us because it didn't have enough guarantees (even though the Steelers have a very good track record for paying out most of their contracts). And, we ended up finding what looks to be a pretty good successor in Conner.

It's just too bad that we ended up blowing the cap surplus from Bell sitting out by appeasing AB. Crappy situations with AB, Bell, and Shazier have significantly diminished our chances of wining another SB with Ben.

He should send a fruit basket to Big Ben, and the Steelers OL, thanking him because they made that happen. He won't have that success with Darnold and the Jets

Damn. Gotta give all your credit to everyone else.

What if he has big production in NY?

                            Then what?

It’s actually possible for players to be elite talents outside of Pittsburgh.

He'll think better of all of the Pittsburgh team after this first game against that Bills defense. A defense that is going to be soley focused on him and there won't be a good O-line to protect him.
