Exactly, the longer the game the more chance of mistake by the Jags, the poor decision and execution allowed to run 3 plays that had little chance of causing a turnover and kept them in FG range. If they're 3rd 4 or 5 on their own 30 yard line they might think about letting Bortles try to win the game or they may just run it and try for 1st down but either way its a chance for the defense to make a play, the 3 running plays were never trying to gain a 1st down and were low risk plays, extend the game at all cost and make them play. Not to mention, the Steeler offense was rolling, the likelihood of Jax stopping the offense was slim to none, IMO.

Onside kicks have about a 13% success rate...
I would have taken our chances with kicking it deep and letting our crowd and defense get into it...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Has Boz even kicked a Onside kick that has gone the required 10 yards? I don’t get too see many games but both of the onside kicks I remember him trying have not gone 10 yards.

yeah. I get why folks are upset BUT when you look at the game from the sideline and see your defense getting abused I get why he tried it.I'm confused. if first and second woulda been he same, how did you just change the yardage needed on 3rd? lol
anyway, you realize that Jacksonville had 22 first downs to just 4 punts. They had converted OVER 61% of third downs leading up to that drive. Odds were VERY stacked against our team for stopping them either way. Which is exactly why I'd have tried to get the ball rather than just giving it to them.
maybe the D finally makes that critical stop but I seriously doubt they run 3 straight times and punt.Steelers 27

why do you guys think it would be 3 running plays? Nope, more than likely they roll him out and give him a run pass option if the guy is wide open. I'm sorry but based on what I watched for 58 minutes I don't think this defense would get that stop.Steelers 27

to me, that was the problem... EXECUTION.. not the decision.
for example, if you call the qb sneak on 4th and inches and ben bobbles the snap, who is that on? is it the decision, or execution.
anytime you don't get it, you have a bunch of people second guessing the decision. but, that doesn't mean it wasn't a wise decision, considering all the information you have a the time2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Wrong. Decisions can be bad. If I total my car driving blindfolded, it was a bad decision. It's not that I simply didn't execute the drive home. As a coach you have to look at what gives the best probability of success. And a QB leaning 8 inches forward has a much higher success rate than a pitch or a 20yd pass.to me, that was the problem... Because they would give their best offensive player the ball and that is Fournette, the Steelers in all likelihood would have had to stop a 3rd and 3, 4 or 5 after two Fournette runs and timeouts, maybe they run it a third time, maybe they try a pass that is 100% going to be complete, they aren't taking the chance of stopping the clock for free and then punting the ball, the clock was going to keep running one way or another, Cowher made a potential HOF career out of that theory with a back similar in style to Fournette.why do you guys think it would be 3 running plays? You have to remember at this point in the game their defense had to have some doubts about their ability to stop Ben and the offense.

"because that's what they did" seems to be the most common thinking. Which is just silly. Field position was different. Situation was different. But, don't let actual football strategy get in the way of fairy tale land..
They ran 3 times because due to poor kick and penalty; they only needed 5 yards to be in FG range... and got that.

TJ Yates gashed us a few times too. This is the problem with hindsight. Sure we can say they give it to Fournette but what if they didn't? They were running that fake end around hand off a ton. Could easily have fooled us with it on the last drive. One of the reasons we lost was because we kept thinking they were going to hand off to Fournette and the play action killed us.Because they would give their best offensive player the ball and that is Fournette, the Steelers in all likelihood would have had to stop a 3rd and 3, 4 or 5 after two Fournette runs and timeouts, maybe they run it a third time, maybe they try a pass that is 100% going to be complete, they aren't taking the chance of stopping the clock for free and then punting the ball, the clock was going to keep running one way or another, Cowher made a potential HOF career out of that theory with a back similar in style to Fournette.
