Waiting for one positive thing (from a team perspective...this weekend) that could come out of Bell stating he could retire if "Tagged" next year.

The positive is we better hurry up and win now before Bell and Ben retire. Maybe other guys look at this and get motivated, realizing that SuperBowls ain't easy to come by. And we have to live in the now. This season may be the only opportunity they've got.

The Steelers will, I think, allow Bell to negotiate with other teams. If they tag him, they can match the offer...if it’s a franchise tag, they will get at least a 1st round pick for compensation...
I agree. That’s exactly why the Steelers will franchise tag him if they can’t work out a deal. Nice return compensation.

You asked if anything good comes out of it. I answered

if what you believe is true then it doesn’t matter what he says right? So whats the big deal?

Its another one of those “if something negative happens it’s because he said something but d something positive happens it’s because of football”

He turned down their last offer and didn’t report until the last day. I’m sure the Steeper’s already know how Bell feels.

This is PERFECT timing in my opinion. i was beginning to worry because we hadn't had much drama leading up to this game. Now with this out and the Mitchell comments from his interview a month ago we are creating just enough team turmoil to whoop some jaguar ass!!!

well, the timing is ridiculous of course - but he's not saying anything publicly I'm sure the Steelers already didn't know privately.

Jeremy Fowler is another ESPN troll looking for clicks. I would have preferred his clicks revolve around LB replying "you're an idiot and a shameless troll looking to get your name out there instead of honest reporting, but to answer your questions - I haven't considered any contract thoughts and won't do that until the season is over". True or not, that would have put Fowler's name out there just like he wanted - but not necessarily HOW he wanted.

                But I digress.

LB's fatal flaw is he's bargaining with the Steelers. This is not a desperate organization. This is not an ownership that has a myopic view of one season but looks long-term and the overall health of the team for the next decade. They will not respond to media hysteria, attempted leverage etc. They will bargain based on what they think is in the teams best long-term interests without emotion. Bell would be better served simply responding with cliche's in the media, balling out on Sundays and let his agent put together a package that he can then decide yes or no.

But maybe Colbert secretly follows his videos............so you never know!

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

                    I wasn't...

But, in this case, discussing your contract before an important playoff game gives people a convenient target if something goes wrong. It is a distraction, but not necessarily for the team...for the fans and media who watch the game.

If Bell had said nothing, and the Steelers lost, nobody would have anything to point to after the fact...now they will...it is, yet again, another self inflicted wound...added drama where none was called for...

The only positive that could come out of this for Bell is if the Steelers were like, "Oh $#!+!! We'd better cave in to his contract demands or he might sit out!!" We all know better than that and Bell certainly should...I don't think it will affect his performance or the team's performance, but it was still a stupid thing to say and a bad time to say it...

Bell tweeted this message last night:
"I’m trying to win a super bowl...I can care less about what happens after this season...my biggest thing I’m focused on is this team I’m on right now, playing for/with my brothers, & bringing back a 7th ring! what happens next year is irrelevant to my goals"

I'm guessing someone got in LeVeon's ear and advised him to try to clean up his mess a bit.

To be clear...I broached the franchise tag subject with Bell, he wasn't looking to make any grand statements, was just giving honest insight. Mentioned Super Bowl goal multiple times.

Man it's a long off season. We'll have plenty time to kick this around then. Do not believe this has any impact on Bell's focus or anyone else's focus players or coaches.

This is what should happen. I think the FO knows well enough that RBs like Bell don't grow on trees. Let's not be so delusional to think that we can just win without him. The three Bs are what makes the engine go. One wouldn't be as effective without the other. However, I do believe that Bell needs to have a strong showing all the way throughout the postseason to warrant his asking price. Smart front offices should only tie up that kind of money for super bowls, not rushing titles. If the three B's don't hit it this year, in a mediocre year, then they can all kick rocks, as far as I'm concerned.

Win the next 3 games or else kick Ben, Bell, and Brown to the curb. Alrighty then.
