If Tomlin blows this division lead

I knew folks would hear that and try to use it as proof Haley has no input. I also wonder if Gruden was stirring the pot a bit with that response? He said Ben doesn't get any help from Haley while he's in the no huddle and that Haley prepares him all week. Haley gives Ben the freedom in the no huddle to read the defense and make the calls. This is not uncommon for a QB of Ben's caliber and it's not any sort of jab at Haley.Steelers 27

I did see this. He sort of walked those statements back by mentioning that he and Haley work closely on the scheme throughout the week. I agree with you though... the initial reaction was very telling.Comment

I posted before reading your reply. I think you are on the right track with this. Not saying I'm a Haley fan, but I think the analysis is on point. He said Ben doesn't get any help from Haley while he's in the no huddle and that Haley prepares him all week. it is kinda weird that so many blame Tomlin... For Pete's sake the team is 1st in the AFC and they want to BLAME him... I just don't understand. The Tomlin haters cannot wait until the game is over and the loss is official. They cannot wait until they lose the next two or three before they are questioning whether he should be fired. Does it ever get old?
The Steelers have eked out more than a few this year when I thought they would lose, doesn't Tomlin get credit for keeping the team together and never quitting?
Of course, it's usually the same folks that were all "he was hired cuz of the Rooney Rule, not on anything else"... ya know... the same undercover racists who didn't want him in the first place, still want him out2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

Given the overall structure of the offense since we started running more no huddle (absence of "Gadgets/reverses, etc.") I would question how much Haley is truly "In his ear" in the heat of the moment.Comment

I would think that Haley may be more of the information guy in those moments, keeping Ben with current info, such as, down, distance, field position, tendencies from the defense, what hash they are on, personnel on the field and available and let Ben take the info and get into a play that he thinks will work.

The reality is that ben is calling an audible almost every play based on what the dfense is doing. There just isn't time for haley or any Off Coord to call in changes from the sideline. I think it was said best that Haley is probably providing information on defensive tendencies in certain down and distance situations and making references to the game planning that they did prior to the game. That is likely why Ben is checking the info on his wrist which I would guess have grouping of plays they game planned for based on down and distance and success rates."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

yeah, I agree. I didn't like the way it was framed by Gruden because it feeds into the lie that Haley isn't responsible for some of our success. The reality is that ben is calling an audible almost every play based on what the dfense is doing. I think most saw it that way. Personally, I think T. Haley is a weak link in this offense, but I also think it would be foolish to have the mindset that we are 10-2 "Despite T. Haley". As OC, he shares in the collective successes and failures of the Offense (which are many). I still believe that we are underperforming as a unit... but am hopeful that will change for the better when it matters most, and hope that Haley is a part of that outcome if/when it happens.Comment

I actually think it's execution. Ben wasn't playing good ball early on, MB was rusty, Bell was rusty.. OL wasn't playing well.I think most saw it that way. Personally, I think T. While I'm not a fan of Haley I'm not going to blame him when I'm watching Ben overthrow guys or WR's drop TD's or AV and DD get holding penalties that wipe out nice gains.
I think some fans don't want to admit that while we have great players we struggle in the RZ at times.
Also.. early in the year folks were saying stuff like Andy Reid was this genius on offense. He recently gave up play calling duties and while they scored more points they still lost. It's a long season and at 10-2 I think some folks need to step back and realize that unless you have Tom Brady you will probably struggle a few games to score points. Look at Wentz, folks want to crown him but they actually played a good team and fell on their face. He is a beast tho..lol. Some of those throws are insane but he reminds me of young Ben. As you get older, it gets harder. I think patience and looking at the season as a marathon instead of a sprint should give Haley more credit than he gets IMO.Last edited by feltdizz; 12-05-2017, 03:36 PM.Steelers 27

Ben actually made some terrible throws last night until the 4th Qtr. He was throwing the ball into the ground and behind receivers
In addition, Bryant seems to have lost whatever he had two years ago. Dropping way too many passes. He is clearly not a #2 anymore based on his inconsisteny"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

Maybe he worked out with Mike Wallace in the off season
