I think Gay will provide veteran insurance in the slot behind the inexperienced Hilton, while also offering emergency depth at safety. I think Gay can provide one more year of value in the dime back role. I think we can safely stash Allen on the P.S. If another team tries to poach him during, then promote him to our 53 man roster.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Signing Golson is a luxury that a bad team has and a championship caliber team does not. That's just the way it is. I'd rather be the team who needs to cut a guy like that than a team who is able to sign him and hope he pans out.

One thing that we have to consider is Cam Sutton reinjuring his hamstring last night. It's possible that the team could consider placing Sutton on I.R. and then potentially bringing him back around midseason, because the NFL allows teams to bring two players back from I.R. this year and not just one. And you do not have to designate in advance which players you plan to bring back. You can wait and see how rehab is going before making that choice.

However, in order to potentially be eligible to return from I.R. at some point later this season, I believe you have to make your team's final 53 man roster and then get placed on I.R. (I don't think players placed on I.R. during the preseason are eligible to come back this year). So it's possible that Sutton makes the final 53 on Saturday afternoon, but is placed on I.R. on Sunday.

This could benefit someone like Brian Allen. Tell him your plans with Sutton. Explain why you have to cut Allen on Saturday, but then are able to bring him back onto the 53 man roster on Sunday once Sutton goes on I.R. Just a thought.

          a great thought

With his size I wonder if Allen has some Safety in his future

Interesting analysis... left something to be desired when I got down to the DBs. No mention of Brian Allen or S. Golson at all. Would have thought to hear a "Practice squad" designation for one or both of them.

I'd be all over that idea! He's a converted WR from his early college days... and at 6'3" and the lack of depth back there... Why not? Could develop into a solid starter in 2-3 years.

                According to Aditi K...

Steelers will keep 5 CBs. Artie Burns, Joe Haden, William Gay and Mike Hilton staying. Cam Sutton is hurt fairly significantly. So who's #5?
It looks like they keep Gay, move Allen to the PS, and it is down to Sensebaugh or Cockrell for the very last spot.

Shes smoking something...With all the multi receiver sets we face thats crazy talk...Its not like we're stocked at safety.
More likely that we need 6 if Gay is kept

so, who claims to be the best?

Obviously, we didn't see the moves coming, so, i'm guessing best preseason guess might've been somewhere between 45-50 correct...
