I'd keep DHB b/c he's been reliable game in and game out. Maybe not in the passing game but in special teams. He has the experience to play WR when neededHere We Go Steelers, Here We Go...

I've read that we save $500k by cutting him. I'm so ignorant on salary cap numbers, so I don't know how significant a $500k can be, but I guess that would be something else against him as far as going to the practice squad. If it were me, I'd still try and stash him there. At this point, I'd call him about 10% to turn into a NFL caliber player. That may sound low, but I would venture that a practice squad player actually rising to active roster player is at least that now and probably lower.
On another note, for the life of me, I still don't get the love for Hunter. I read these other comment sections, and they all talk about this guy and never having a good QB throwing to him. That is silly, if you consider that these teams still can recognize WR talent, despite who is throwing him the ball. My sense is that he was garbage in practice, and garbage in games. Three teams don't give up on a "freak" athlete like that.
In the end, he was insurance for Martavis. So was JJSS. Now that we have Martavis in tow, and JJSS hopefully healthy, that insurance policy is simply unneeded.I wasn't hired for my disposition.Comment

keep the better player and let the ST work out with the 53 on the roster.
you start keeping worse players for their gunner abilities over more talented guys and you get what we had last year in the playoffs.. no receivers that could be relied onComment

absolutely. we are middle of the road at ST teams anyways.
keep a young hungry guy with potential to get better over a old hungry guy that will never be more than a 5th wrsteelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clownComment

O-R Sports reporter Dale Lolley gets you the insider scoop on the NFL.
Taking a look at the 53-man roster
August 22, 2017
Because of a change in NFL rules this year, the Steelers and other teams won’t have to cut their rosters from 90 to 53 players until after Week 4 of the preseason.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t start taking a look at how this roster is shaping up.
Here’s where I see things as they currently stand halfway through the preseason.
Quarterbacks (3): Ben Roethlisberger, Landry Jones, Josh Dobbs. Not much drama here. Dobbs is getting a lot of playing time with Jones still nursing an abdominal injury. But he’s no danger to unseat Jones as Roethlisberger’s backup.
Running backs (5): Le’Veon Bell, James Conner, Fitzgerald Toussaint, Knile Davis, Roosevelt Nix. Davis will get a shot to prove himself as the kick returner, otherwise, Terrell Watson has outplayed him throughout the process. Watson heads to the practice squad. Trey Williams hasn’t done enough outside of his punt return for a TD last week to show he has to have a roster spot.
Wide receivers (6): Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Eli Rogers, JuJu Smith-Shuster, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Sammie Coates. Justin Hunter’s play has tailed off the past couple of weeks. Heyward-Bey gets another year because, quite simply, the Steelers want his leadership. The Steelers try to sneak both Demarcus Ayers and Marcus Tucker to the practice squad.
Tight ends (3): Jesse James, Xavier Gimble, David Johnson. As hard as it might be to believe, Johnson has probably had the best training camp and preseason of this group. Jake McGee goes to the practice squad.
Offensive line (9): Alejandro Villanueva, Ramon Foster, Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro, Marcus Gilbert, B.J. Finney, Chris Hubbard, Matt Feiler, Jerald Hawkins. Nine seems like a lot, but deciding between Feiler and Hawkins is tough. And there’s a good chance in an offensive lineman-starved league that neither would clear waivers without being claimed. The same goes for Brian Mihalik, but the Steelers try to sneak him onto the practice squad.
Defensive line (5): Cam Heyward, Javon Hargrave, Stephon Tuitt, Tyson Alualu, L.T. Walton. The Daniel McCullers experiment comes to an end. Both Alualu and Walton can play the nose. And the Steelers only play a 3-4 30 percent of the time, anyway. Johnny Maxey heads to the practice squad again. Maybe Roy Philon, as well.
Outside linebackers (5): James Harrison, T.J. Watt, Bud Dupree, Anthony Chickillo, Arthur Moats. That’s five good ones. The Steelers will try to sneak Keion Adams to the practice squad or he could be slated for a sneaky IR move.
Inside linebackers (4): Ryan Shazier, Vince Williams, Tyler Matakevich, L.J. Fort. The Steelers only go with four inside linebackers, which is outside the norm. But Steven Johnson has been less than impressive and seemingly always nicked up in this camp. And, like the nose tackle position, the inside backers aren’t as important as they once were. Plus, Moats can move inside in a pinch.
Cornerbacks (6): Artie Burns, Ross Cockrell, William Gay, Coty Sensabaugh, Mike Hilton, Cam Sutton. Six corners sounds like a lot, but Hilton can play both corner and safety. The Steelers try to sneak Brian Allen onto the practice squad.
Safeties (4): Mike Mitchell, Sean Davis, Robert Golden, Jordan Dangerfield. That’s 10 defensive backs, with a couple - Davis and Hilton - who are position flexible. I like Jacob Hagen, as well, but it’s the practice squad for him.
Specialists (3): Chris Boswell, Jordan Berry, Colin Holba. Not a lot of drama here. Davis will get a chance to be the kick returner. If the Steelers choose, Rogers or possibly Sutton - assuming he gets healthy - can be the punt returner if they don’t want to use Brown there any longer.
http://www.observer-reporter.com/20170822/taking_a_look_at_the_53-man_rosterSteeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

O-R Sports reporter Dale Lolley gets you the insider scoop on the NFL.
Preseason is done, now it’s time to cut to 53
August 31, 2017
Since the Steelers have to cut their roster to 53 players by 4 p.m. Saturday, I’m not going to bore you with a recap or analysis from Thursday night’s 17-14 win at Carolina to close out the preseason.
I’ll analyze what happened in the game while also telling you who I think will be on the 53-man roster and why.
With that, let’s get into it.
Quarterbacks (3): Ben Roethlisberger, Landry Jones, Josh Dobbs: Dobbs played his best game of the preseason against the Panthers, going 16-23 for 212 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for the game-winning score. He won’t push Landry Jones for the No. 2 spot this season, but he showed enough progress in this process to show that he can next year.
Running backs (4): Le’Veon Bell, James Conner, Terrell Watson, Roosevelt Nix: Watson consistently outplayed Knile Davis and Fitzgerald Toussaint in this preseason to the point where somebody will sign him to their 53-man roster if the Steelers try to put him on the practice squad. He’s just better than the other guys. The only question is if the Steelers are comfortable with two young runners behind Bell.
Wide receivers (6): Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, JuJu Smith-Shuster, Eli Rogers, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Sammie Coates. The Steelers expect to hear from the league by Saturday’s 4 p.m. cutdown date whether Bryant will be given the OK for this season and expect that he will. I know Justin Hunter made a bit of a statement in the final preseason game, but it was too little, too late for my liking. Plus, he does nothing on special teams. And if Davis is gone, Coates is your kick returner. He and Heyward-Bey are two of the better gunners on the team on punt coverage, as well. Hunter does none of the things you need a No. 5 or 6 WR to do to have value. A trade possibility? Perhaps they can get a seventh-round pick for him. I’ve liked Marcus Tucker all along and he and Demarcus Ayers can head to the practice squad.
Tight ends (4): Jesse James, Vance McDonald, David Johnson, Xavier Grimble: We saw what a little competition can do to a position. The tight ends had their best game of the preseason against the Panthers. Because McDonald could take a week or three to get up to speed in the offense, the Steelers will keep all four. All four can contribute on special teams, anyway.
Offensive line (
: Alejandro Villanueva, Ramon Foster, Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro, Marcus Gilbert, B.J. Finney, Chris Hubbard, Cole Feiler. Finney is the top backup inside and Hubbard can play all five spots in a pinch. Feiler makes it over Jerald Hawkins and Brian Mihalik, both of whom are eligible for the practice squad, while Feiler is not.
Defensive end (5): Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Javon Hargrave, Tyson Alualu, L.T. Walton: Alualu and Walton both can play inside or out and James Harrison could play end in a pinch. Lavon Hooks would be the next guy in line. And look for the Steelers to make a last-ditch effort to get Tuitt extended before the weekend is over.
Linebackers (9): Bud Dupree, T.J. Watt, James Harrison, Anthony Chickillo and Arthur Moats outside; Ryan Shazier, Vince Williams, Tyler Matakevich and L.J. Fort inside: This is a pretty simple cut with Farrington Huguenin sticking around on the practice squad along with Keith Kelsey. Veteran Steven Johnson is a casualty.
Cornerbacks (6): Artie Burns, Joe Haden, Ross Cockrell, Coty Sensabaugh, Mike Hilton, William Gay: Cam Sutton suffered another hamstring injury Thursday night. He’ll likely head to IR for his rookie season. That saves Cockrell or Sensabaugh a spot on the roster. Haden should be ready to start Week 1 since that game is against Cleveland, his former team. Hilton will be the slot corner with Gay playing inside as well when the team goes dime while also serving as the fourth safety.
Safety (3): Mike Mitchell, Sean Davis, Robert Golden: Jordan Dangerfield’s ankle injury Thursday night was serious enough that he went straight to the locker room. That’s not good, especially at a position that was already thin. Don’t be surprised if the Steelers look for some help here. But Gay and Hilton also can play some safety. This also assumes the team feels Mitchell is ready to go for the opener.
Specialists (3): Chris Boswell, Jordan Berry, Colin Holba: The Holba vs. Kameron Canaday battle was a lot closer than many thought it would be. Holba is a little more accurate, while Canaday snaps with a little more velocity. Both can do the job at the NFL level. Could a trade be a possibility?

I'd really prefer to see Brian Allen over Gay. Allen has gotten better every week and Gay won't. If Gay is on the field it will be a long season of him chasing guys he can't cover any more just like Ike's last seasonLast edited by Oviedo; 09-01-2017, 11:47 AM."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment
