He was ranked 24th out of 88 NFL safeties last year. That's a little above average if you have 64 starting NFL safeties.

Extrapolated over the course of a healthy season thats 60 receptions, 1,344 yards and 8Tds. That's why I believe in Coates.
he also had a lot of drops. I'm not a fan of extrapolating data when a guy has questionable hands.

I see Bryant replacing Coates and JuJu competing with Rogers for snaps.

Bryant drops balls as well...so did Burress back in the day. In this case, the stats don't lie. He was very productive before a hand injury. Now, I will say that projecting 1300 yards off 5 games might be a bit slanted. But, it does support the idea of him being a quality #2. In this offense, with Bryant he will be asked to be a #3 or even a #4. I think he is more than adequate to fill that role.

Sorry, Shawn, I'm with felt here. he had way too many drops for my liking, even before the hand injury. seemed like that became more of an excuse as opposed to a legit cause-effect thing.

He dropped 25% of TARGETS. First of all, some of those targets weren't even catchable... so, his drop rate was probably more like 1/3 of catchable balls. That's mind boggling as a professional.

I wouldn't just cut him - but, i'm not sure that he can overcome the perception of a guy with the dropsies. Have a feeling his leash will be short

it was actually 19 % of catchable balls, how many drive killers that equates to , who knows but that is too much for any NFL WR. AND that's before the hand.

we saw the best and worst of coates all in 1 game (jets).
2 TD's IIRC and an amazing 4 drops.

He reminds me a bit of Burress in that way. I think Coates is a talent but struggles with concentration drops and frankly neither had soft hands. With that said, if Coates is being called on as a 4th WR, he isn't good enough for that? So bad in fact that we needed to spend a second? I don't know.

I will say this in the defense of the Steelers draft. When I disagree with them, they are usually right. That's why they get paid to do what they do. I couldn't fathom how they could draft JuJu with Moreau on the board. Then it comes out that he had more medical than we originally thought. And passing on Witherspoon I can deal with. So, I think this was truly a case of BPA in a position where they wanted some insurance. I'm ok with the pick. I'm not doing flips but I think he is going to be a solid player for us. After Bryant leaves for greener pastures it may look like a genius pick.

My biggest issue with him is his lack of high pointing the football. He is too big to play that small when the ball is in the air.
