The Steelers should still be building their team around Ben Roethlisberger

Really astute observationA great route to success in the NFL is having a very good, young QB who hasn't been paid yet and a strong defense and running game. It worked for Seattle. Worked for the Steelers in 2005.
If you draft a replacement for Ben too early, you are robbed of that opportunity. Let's say Ben plays out his deal - 2 more years. You then only have 1 year to evaluate a replacement and determine whether to give him the 5th year option. You also only get 2 years of a cheap QB. The ideal is to have a rookie only sit for 1 year. Any more than that and you are hurting yourself.
The Steelers can, and should, focus on winning now while they still have Ben. Adding an edge rusher or another corner sets you up better to win now and in the future.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Another team offered him a 2 year deal worth $12 million, and $11 million of that was guaranteed. That's 91.7% of the contract value fully guaranteed.
A guy at his age would have been a fool not to accept that, especially since it allows him to move back to his home state, where there is no state income tax.
For comparison's sake, upon adding 4 more years to Antonio Brown's contract with $68 million in new money, only $19 million of that was guaranteed. That's 27.9% of the contract value fully guaranteed.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment
