I get the hometown vibe thing and all but I'm not feeling him. There are still better options down there IMO.

I've already looked and I didn't call him a fullback. I said powerbacks are leaving the league by the way of the fullback ie they are becoming antiquated. I think Conner is a really good college back. But, I'm not sure his game translates to the NFL. IMO, he would benefit by dropping 20 pounds like Bell. He isn't quick. He is a body catcher. He isn't nimble. He has average top end speed and lots of power. I think he would make a decent #2 back with some upside if he drops weight.

In the game against Clemson that Pitt OL had a really great game. They were blowing holes up in that Clemson front, and he was running over people once he got a head of steam. No doubt the man is a hoss. But, can he turn the C gaps at the NFL level? IMO, no. He is truly a threat in the passing game? Eh. I would consider taking a late round flyer on him, ask him to drop weight to 220 and have him practice with the WRs for a bit.

I was mistaken on the year of the lymphoma diagnosis, but it doesn't negate the fact that he doesn't have the speed, shiftiness or athleticism to be a feature NFL running back. Sure, he could be a goal line back. Is that worth dropping a 3rd or 4th on him? I think we do need a running back but I want a guy who is less one dimensional. I want Mixon but I don't think he makes it out of the second.

Colbert is pretty good when it comes to finding LB's , RB's and wide receivers. I think if he takes a guy in the 4th round or so, he'll have all the tools we want a RB to have. Now cornerbacks after the first round,............................

I could see the team showing interest in the likes of Marlon Mack or D'Onta Foreman with our 3rd round comp pick.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Definitely worth it in the 4th.

I wouldn't lose sleep if we selected him in the 4th. I do not think 240 is a great weight for him to play at and he may have more upside once he sheds 20.

Sounds like a guy named Bell who we have as a RB now. Not suggesting that Conner is another Bell but I do believe he can be a productive RB in the NFL

                    .
Remember when Le'Veon Bell was thought to be a 3rd or 4th round pick on this board prior to the 2013 draft?

People were surprised when we took him in round 2 when guys like Eddie Lacy and Montee Ball were still available.

Hell, I wanted us to draft WR Keenan Allen with that 2nd round pick instead of Bell. Shows what I know.

I don't think Conner has any problem with making sacrifices to play football.

LeVeon was a power back who hurdled defenders once and a while when he was at MSU.

All I know is Conner ran around and over anyone he lined up against. He shredded the ACC. Keep in mind Pitt had an awesome OC. They were a joy to watch on O but a nightmare on D.

You are right about the comparison in Bell and Conner in two aspects...both needed to lose weight and could run with power. That's where the similarities end. There were many differences in Bells game that caught my eye...first he caught the ball like a WR, second he ran with patience behind a horrible MSU OL and was still productive, and even though he was a big powerback he had very nimble feet. He didn't have superb top end speed but he had enough to make defenders respect the edges.

                            Fellas,

Colbert is going to pull the trigger on someone down there to be the backup. He was pretty good in evaluating Bell so let's give him the benefit of the doubt on who he selects this time. He's earned that.

did you watch Conner at all last year? Doesn't sound like it.

I dont think Bell had anywhere near the patience or running style he has now. He said as much in a recent interview.

Conner doesn't need to have the patience Bell has, it works for Bell but D'Angelo was very successful making one cut and getting upfield behind the same OL.

I would prefer him in the 6th if possible but I think he will be gone by then.

I actually did. And I rarely miss on running backs. I'm telling you this, he can't be a feature back in the NFL at 240. If he has any significant success it will be at 220.
