Thankfully Jones isn't getting paid very much. I'd much rather have a Hoyer or Nick Foles as a backup, but at $6 million for Hoyer and something similar for Foles, that's a lot of money. For $2.2 million, with only a small signing bonus and nothing guaranteed, Jones is cheap and replaceable.

My frustration isn't with jones as the backup. It's with the way the Steelers are treating the backup position at this point in Roethlisberger's career. We'll see if they change their minds about status quo for the QB position during this draft.

well, a million saved here and there can add up to a real FA contributor
laundry hasnt shown the ability to be a real nfl starter in 4 years. this team will be in the exact same situation if ben goes down whether laundry, mettenburger or some drafted qb has to fill in
and that is screwed. why spend the extra money when there is ZERO upside to a player?

there is upside you guys just don't like it. He knows the playbook and is a nice fill in for 1 or 2 games and gives us a chance to win a game that is usually a toos up even when we have Ben under center.

Exactly....Our focus needs to be improving this swiss cheese defense

The games Landry lost were against Tom Brady and the Pats at Heinz Field, and against the Chiefs at Arrowhead. Are we favored in either of those games even if Ben starts?
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

lol............so during the next 2 years, ben will only get hurt the weeks we play the pats and chiefs?

I'm just giving the kid's history. This past year he lost to the 14-2 Super Bowl champions and beat the 1-15 Browns. The year before, he beat the 13-3 Cardinals and lost to the 11-5 Chiefs at Arrowhead. Against three playoff teams and one historically bad team, the kid is 2-2.

I think the point is that Ben has good games and bad ones. Clearly Ben is in another universe of talent compared to Jones. But when Ben goes out, we have a similar chance with Jones as we do with bad Ben.

I don't see any huge upgrades over Jones available. The next one I want to see is coming from the draft in the form of someone they think can replace Ben. Until then, I'm fine with Jones.

agreed, but why are we assuming the games ben misses/will miss are gonna be his bad games?
im ok with keeping laundry too, just not at that price.
