Oh I forgot Jeffrey. He was already at around 14mil.
You miss the point. The position is overpaid relative to their ability to contribute to actual championships. The highest paid tier of receivers is always overpaid.

In recent years there is a shocking lack of correlation between top receivers (all pro level) and actual championships. QB is the other extreme. A great QB is always money well spent.

Let me add. Besides QB, elite DEFENSIVE TALENT is more important than offensive talent when looking at what actually contributes to championships. We have seen the elite in the league at linebacker, safety, corner, all more important than elite receiver talent in championships.

Now you put big money in a receiver when a very good one is a dime a dozen? Santonio types can be Super Bowl MVPs because the QB is what matters as long as you have "good" receivers.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

If we had one of the best LB's or best CB's in the league, I would be all for paying them top dollar. But we don't. We have one of the best WR's and RB's in the league. We paid them. It's not like Khalil Mack or Patrick Peterson is suddenly going to be available for you to sign. Teams sign their elite players before they reach free agency. That's what we did with Brown and Bell.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Our history is that we've won with great (legendary) defensive players and had serviceable to good offensive players. I"m more comfortable giving big, over the top money to defense then to offensive players. That has won us championships.

This new way of paying the big, over the top money to offense feels awkward. And I don't know if it will translate to championships. I think this is not only awkward to me but to a lot of Steeler fans who are more comfortable the old way.

Exactly, it's not like we are picking offense over defense and letting a great player on D go to pay AB and LB.

Our best players on D are young.

Short sighted thinking. Lopsided spending will come back to haunt us.

FYI, Browns cap hit is nearly as much as any TWO Pat skill players COMBINED.

I do not believe they have EVER had a 10 mil cap hit for an offensive skill player not named Brady.

But noooo, lets not learn from the Pats, let's be like the Lions with Megatron wreaking their cap for the better part of a decade.

We are the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose front office has done a great job over the past few years, from O line, to young guys on D, and beyond.

We don't need to "learn from the Pats**".

Back in Black (and Gold), reported by Bouchette. Don't know the terms of the deal.

ouch... pretty scathing writeup over at walterfootball:

Steelers re-sign QB Landry Jones (2 years): F Grade
I haven't found any financial details on this contract yet, but I don't care. This deal could be for two years, three cents, and it wouldn't change anything. It's awful, and it fully deserves to be graded poorly.

I don't understand why the Steelers continue to insist that Landry Jones is a viable No. 2 quarterback. He's one of the worst backups in the NFL. He was 25th in my
2017 NFL Free Agent Quarterbacks (http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2017QB.php), listed below Vince Young and Josh Freeman, both of whom are out of the league. Jones is so bad that the Steelers have become an automatic fade in the preseason; they're 3-14 in their past four Augusts!

This is an "F." I'm not even willing to figure out a Millen grade for this. It's just bad and embarrassing that Jones continues to be named a No. 2 quarterback, and the Steelers should be ashamed of themselves.

For significantly more than Jones was paid but why pay attention to details like that
