NFL reportedly looking into Steelers’ failure to disclose Le’Veon Bell’s injury

Earlier this week, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that the team was aware of Le’Veon Bell’s groin injury in advance of the AFC championship game against the Patriots. This is notable because Pittsburgh didn’t list him on the injury report in the days leading up to the contest.

“I was aware of it,” Tomlin said, via the team’s website. “It wasn’t significant to the point where it affected planning or the anticipation of planning in any way. It’s unfortunate that it became an issue in-game.”

Bell was sidelined after just six carries for 20 yards. The NFL is now looking into whether the Steelers failed to properly disclose the injury, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Seahawks are dealing with a similar situation, after Pete Carroll revealed that cornerback Richard Sherman played the second half of the season with an MCL injury, but was never listed on the team’s injury reports. Seattle could be facing the loss of a 2017 second-round pick as punishment.

Robert Kraft and Pete Carroll are probably already demanding that the Steelers must forfeit a second-round pick.

This is just low-end leadership. We should NEVER be in this position. This is not how the Rooneys conduct themselves.

Bell said he hid the injury...

Bettis said he faked an injury in camp so the Steelers wouldn't cut him

Ben told reporters he was playing with a broken toe after the SB.

It isnt low end leadership. It's players making decisions to hide, lie or embellish for various reasons.

“I was aware of it,” Tomlin said, via the team’s website.

I don't understand how your comment makes any sense. Whether Bell tried to hide it or not, leadership knew about it.

The issue is whether they (incredibly stupidly, IMO) broke NFL rules by not reporting the injury they were aware of. That would pretty much be "low end leadership".

Good lord, now we're looking at a possible loss of draft picks? If all this turns out to be true, it's sure getting harder and harder to point and laugh at Terry Bradshaw's comments ...

So, besides the assistant they need to hire to help Tomlin with clock management, and the consultant they need to hire to help him come up with a game plan for the *'s, now they need to hire him a helper to make sure the injuries are all listed? Is there anybody they could bring in as, say, an assistant head coach, who could cover all these duties (and maybe also make sure AB isn't livestreaming on facebook when the HC is giving his locker room address)?

You do not. Only a significant injury. If the missed practice on Thursday was because of the "soreness" than it is likely reportable. If, as the team has said, Bell missed practice for a personal reason on Thursday after his typical Wednesday off, it is likely not an issue. I don't necessarily blame the NFL for investigating, but I think the Steelers get cleared.

Yeah, given Bells stats in the previous 2 games I fail to see how we get in trouble over this..

However, I think the injury report is for sports betting. If Bell was listed I bet the lines change in a few bets. I can't see any other reason for it.

Le’Veon Bell figuring out if he needs groin surgery
Posted by Josh Alper on February 1, 2017, 12:44 PM EST

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell was forced out of the AFC Championship Game because of a groin injury that has touched off a discussion about whether the team should be punished for not listing Bell on the injury report after he intially got hurt earlier in the playoffs.

The injury has also touched off discussions between Bell and members of the medical community about whether or not he needs to have surgery in order to get back to 100 percent.

“I’m kind of in the process of seeing a couple of doctors, seeing if I have to get surgery or not,” Bell said during an appearance on NFL Network. “I’m hoping for the best, but I understand it’s a tough game. If I don’t get surgery, I go into the rehab process, work hard, get back to how I was last year. Actually, better. I’m going to take it from there.”

Heading into free agency off of surgery wouldn’t be ideal for Bell or any other player, but the consensus opinion out of Pittsburgh has been that the Steelers will use the franchise tag to keep Bell off the open market if they can’t sign a long-term deal.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

McCaffery is Reggie Bush. He is undersized and won't live up to the value of a 1st rounder. I think he will end up often injured like Bush.
