If it is clear that Ben is just returning for "selfish" motives, then yes, it is time to move on. However if he is prepared to recommit himself to being a better player, more consistent, better conditioning, team leader - and all the above, then let's get ready for another superbowl run! And yes, I said team leader! For him to publicly call out his coaches and teammates when times get tough and failing to mention himself for his plethora of bad games he has contributed. That is just a sign of a punk and not a true team leader! To me, his selfish actions after the loss to NE (blaming the rookies and going off on his retirement rant) - was no better than what AB did with his facebook live post! Ben needs to grow up/man up and take responsibility for HIS team! He is a 13 year vet - and he was confident enough, he should be the "quasi" offensive coordinator. Haley should just be a "figure-head". The truly great ones call their own plays and run their own offense ! They don't need no stinkin' coordinators...
Should Steelers Move on From Ben?

Are there any QBs in the NFL today who "call their own plays" and "run their own offense" and "don't need no stinkin' coordinators"? Just curious, because I'm not aware of any.Comment

I think some vets like Brady and Rodgers have more rope to refuse a play call. Hell, we see Ben tell the FG unit to stay off the field on 4th downs so he can do the predictable fake cadence to try and draw them offsides. That usually results in burning a TO too.
What I don't like about Ben is when we don't score a TD or lose a game he has no problem throwing Haley under the bus but when we put up 40 it's "we design the plays together and came up with the game plan"
Ben gives Haley some of the credit when things go good but he tends to give Haley ALL the blame when we lose. If Ben thinks we could score with a QB sneak then run the freaking sneak and prove it instead of talking about it.Steelers 27

Yeah! The ones who know how to read defenses and make the proper adjustments at the line before the ball is snapped! What more control do you need then that?Comment

OK, I'm with you on that. The way you wrote (in your earlier post) sounded like you were saying if a team has a "real QB" they don't need to have an OC, just have the QB call the plays ALL the time. Nobody operates that way, AFAIK.Comment

How skillful do you guys think Ben is at reading defenses and making good adjustments at the line?
We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!
HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!Comment

I think the more a coordinator trust his QB - The more freedom he has to override plays and make adjustments.Comment

Ben is a physically gifted QB. In his younger days, he was pretty much unstoppable at taking hits and keeping plays alive. His game was physical, scrambling, and making plays when all else failed, so to speak! Being a student of the game and making smart decisions was never his "forte".Comment

Can't say "No" until we know the alternative. If we're asking if we take a QB like Tom Savage or Dak Prescott or Landry Jones, then I say "for sure". If we are saying get rid of the man and pick up a new QB (I don't know who is out there besides Romo), then I say no.
I do think that his days as a lead dog are done. His lack of conditioning is clear. He can be an Elway type of SB QB, or in today's terms, a Phillip Rivers or Eli. But he's not good enough to carry the team anymore.I wasn't hired for my disposition.Comment

Wait...Did you just say that the Steelers should move on from Ben for sure if the alternative is Landry Jones? Can't say "No" until we know the alternative. Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Bingo! I never said Ben didn't have that freedom. What I was alluding to is how effective is he at using that freedom. In essence Ben could really be his own offensive coordinator if he chose to. So when the offense sputters who fault is it really? I don't see any offensive coordinators holding the "elite" quarterbacks hostage. Basically, they are trusted to do what they do best. All the experience Ben has had in this system - Should we be blaming Haley for anything?Comment

To the extent Haley is deficient in game-planning and play-calling, yes, he shoulders some of the blame for the underperforming offense. Should Ben audible out for a better play? Yes. But realistically, he's not always going to. I don't know that anyone always does. I also don't think it's fair to place all the fault with Ben when Haley sends out Rosie Nix and David Johnson and an injured Sammie Coates as part of his complement of receivers.Comment
