Dude this was a 5 page long thread before I even showed up. I sure didn't start this topic.
However considering Landry was in the midst of "playing" (quite rare) when the thread started, he had a good game inspiring confidence in some and not others, it seems as relevant as any time in the season for this debate to emerge.

Nice twist Dizz. If Ben got hurt in say this game I do not want Mett over Jones.
I would like to see a real competition for number 2 if Jones stays for cheap.

I will tell you this. I'd love to have a "Matt Moore" type veteran backup over either.

Two words - Tony Romo. He has the skills, and may be on the market if no one wants him as a starter.

He will be Porcelain Doll v2.0 (v1.0 being Potato Chip Charlie Batch, "touch him and he crumbles").

He will start somewhere next season, He is not not going to play for a back up QB's salary, it's just not worth it.

Yep. Too many teams in the NFL without a decent QB (see CLE). Someone will throw a boatload of money at him knowing they could possibly get 8-10 wins a season from him.

Did not read the whole thread. But this is how I see QB Jones. If I were to say hey guys Jones Vs Moore this weekend how do you feel? Is anyone here confident in Jones? Nope not me. But I did have that in Batch. None of the other back ups since Batch has givin me any confidence at all. Was excited for Vick and he sucked the worst as a QB! Running a little helped him but not enough! Was also excited for LJ at times. He has had moments were he looked good. But way to many times well below "the line"! If LJ stays here cheap that's fine. Hope Burger #2 can take the #2 spot. If LJ moves on I hope to see a rook and another brought in to compete with burger 2!

                    Smart move.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Steelers appear ready to give Landry Jones good backup money
Posted by Michael David Smith on February 16, 2017, 9:51 AM EST

Steelers backup quarterback Landry Jones becomes a free agent next month, but the team appears ready to make sure he stays in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers view Jones as better than 80 percent of the other backups in the league, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. If that’s the case, it’s hard to see how the Steelers could let him get away, unless some other team were willing to offer Jones starter money.

And the reality is there’s no way another team will offer Jones starter money. The Steelers may love what Jones gives them as a backup, but he’s only been so-so when filling in for Ben Roethlisberger, completing 60.3 percent of his passes with a 7.6 yards per pass average, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. No team is going to make Jones its starter, so what would seem to make the most sense is the Steelers giving Jones a contract better than 80 percent of backups make.

That might put Jones somewhere in the neighborhood of the two-year, $6.5 million contract the Cardinals gave backup quarterback Drew Stanton last year. For the Steelers, locking Jones up with that kind of deal would give them some security as Roethlisberger ages and begins to talk about hanging up the cleats. And for Jones, it would be a hefty pay raise over the four-year, $2.6 million rookie contract he just finished.

Me neither. In this draft given the dearth of QB talent, you aren't going to get a back up necessarily better than Jones in this draft when you would want to burn a pick on a QB. I'd also let Mettenberger battle Jones for the #2 position.

I'm fine with bringing Landry back - I don't love it or hate it. But I do hate the idea of paying him "good" backup money. I see a "good" backup as somebody who is a fringy starter on a bad team - a guy like Brian Hoyer, Josh McCown, somebody like that. Even on a bad team, I don't see Landry being a guy that would get starting consideration.

Landry is most valuable to the Steelers because he knows the offense, and this is also the best spot for him, because his biggest asset is knowing the offense. If you bring him back, that's fine, but I think its crazy to pay him over $3 million per year.

I would prefer to have a QB with a lower interception rate, because we can get by for a few games as a pretty run heavy O if BR gets hurt. Between him and Mettenberger, hopefully we can get at least some decent back up play.

All accounts I've seen say that the QB class this year is bad, so it's probably best to go with what we had last year...at least they know the offence.

I think this proves Mettenberger is trash and they probably value Jones more than fans do based on what they see in practice and in games.

I also believe a lot of fans have an unrealistic expectation for a backup of a 100 million dollar QB.
