    Ben Roethlisberger: It’s only halftime

    Ben Roethlisberger: It’s only halftime

Posted by Josh Alper on November 9, 2016, 9:22 AM EST

The Steelers offense flopped against the Ravens last week in quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s return to action after he missed a game with a knee injury and the 21-14 loss dropped them to 4-4 halfway through the season.

Roethlisberger said Tuesday that he agreed with wide receiver Antonio Brown that everyone on the offense needs to step up in order to avoid a repeat while expressing confidence that the Steelers will be able to do exactly that in the eight remaining games this season.

“I could do the Aaron Rodgers, ‘Relax,’ but I’m just going to say, it’s halftime,” Roethlisberger said on The Cook and Poni Show on 93.7 The Fan. “We’re at half time, and we’ve had a lot of great second halves in my career and Pittsburgh Steelers’ season history … it’s not over yet and I’m excited for the second half of the season.”

The last two years have seen the Steelers post better records in the second half on their way to the playoffs and they went from 4-4 to 10-6 last season, so Roethlisberger’s got some history to point to about the Steelers finishing stronger than they started. A win over the 7-1 Cowboys this weekend would be a good way to get the ball rolling toward another happy ending.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I hate the halftime analogy. When was the last time we made a good halftime adjustment?

I just want to see caution thrown to the wind. Play aggressive on both sides of the ball. Stop with this conservative BS.

In other words, you want them to unleash hell?

We were behind at halftime last week and still lost not a great example IMO

i don't expect them to give up and there's a good chance we still come away with a 10 win season - which should be good enough for the playoffs.

but as I've said before, this season is already one of squandered opportunities.

so while ben might be proclaiming 'halftime' - the point he's missing is that the steelers have likely given away 'homefield'. and that usually doesn't bode well for a deep playoff run.

While its impossible to guess whats going to happen with this team this year, getting to a 10 wins means taking 6 out of the remaining 8 against: Cowboys, Browns x 2, Colts, Giants, Bills, Bengals, and Ravens.

I'd love to say the 2 Browns are "gimmees" but I know they are not. While they have the talent to get to 10 if they play well; I think it's a tall order. Bengals and Ravens are always tough. And I could see any of the others finding a way to beat them.

Completely agree. Let's just hope the Browns are good enough to beat the Rats tonight.

The comment smacks of lack of urgency. Whatever happen to getting up on a team early?... or getting up on a season early? Where's the urgency? where's the fire?

                    Apparently, NOT with Ben ...

I think Ben doesn't have that fire anymore. He has kids, wife and is headed to Canton with 2 rings.

Maybe he knows something about this team? Because he can't be that obtuse, where he doesn't realize the perception of the team right now (embarrassed in each of the last three games for one reason or another).
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Ben hasn't had that fire since Midgeville. Note the last drive in the SB against GB. The Ben from 08 would've won that game.

Actually, his point is when fans have panicked in the past, (perception) they have been wrong.
His first championship they came back from a deep hole, the lowest seeded playoff team of his career.
When he's had the number one seed, his team was not the champions.

His "experience" tells him that to panic now is WAY premature.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Hate to say it, but Ben had that "Hines Ward" stare last week... when Hines was on the sideline in his jacket the last game of his career. I'm not saying it's over for Ben, but it's time to start thinking about investing a high round pick at QB. I hope he proves me wrong, and starts playing like he's got a chip on his shoulder. Right now he looks mediocre at best.
