It wouldn't fool anyone...dude went under the knife on Monday...he's not playing the following Sunday unless it's the freaking Super Bowl. Especially with the bye week afterward, which would give him 20 days to rest up before trying to come back to face a division rival on the road.
One thing is for sure, Tomlin is not Bill.2019 Mock

Roethlisberger: Last year’s knee injury could affect absence this year
Posted by Mike Florio on October 19, 2016, 10:55 AM EDT
The Steelers already have ruled out quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. After the Week Eight bye, Roethlisberger possibly will miss even more time, due to an injury he suffered a year ago.
“Doc says my knee looked good, but there still was some stuff in there from when I had my bone bruise last season in St. Louis,” Roethlisberger told Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “He said that might keep me out a little longer than just a simple meniscus tear. Maybe an extra week or so. But there’s no way to put an exact timetable on it. It all depends on my pain and how I feel.”
Roethlisberger finished Sunday’s game against the Dolphins knowing that he had a torn meniscus.
“Doc told me at halftime he was pretty sure I had a meniscus tear and that I probably was going to have surgery on Monday,” Roethlisberger said. “He said it was up to me and my pain and that I wasn’t going to do any more damage to my knee.
“I went back in because I thought it still gave us a chance to win. Obviously, I wasn’t able to move as well, but my adrenaline was so high. I don’t think it really affected any of my throws. I just wish I had played better. It would have been a great story to come back and win.”
Roethlisberger deserves credit for playing through the injury. He also deserves credit for the performance of the offense in recent years, which have been some of the best of his career. But #narratives are hard to change, and plenty of people who made up their minds about Roethlisberger long ago won’t be inclined to adjust their thinking.
After the week off, the Steelers face the Ravens and then the Cowboys. Landry Jones will play quarterback in Roethlisberger’s absence.

Ben Roethlisberger takes issue with Bart Scott’s “drama king” label
Posted by Mike Florio on October 19, 2016, 2:09 PM EDT
On the same day that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played half of a game with a torn meniscus, Bart Scott of CBS trotted out an old #narrative about Ben.
Scott called Roethlisberger a “drama king,” an apparently P.C. and/or gender accurate twist on the “drama queen” label applied to Roethlisberger in the past.
“What did I do to deserve that?” Roethlisberger told Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “All I’ve ever done is keep playing and keep my mouth shut. You just have to shrug that stuff off. But I would tell him to go see John [Norwig] our trainer and check out my medical file. It’s pretty thick. You can’t make that stuff up.”
The perception of injury embellishment arose more than a decade ago, when Roethlisberger claimed that he played the 2004 AFC title game with multiple broken toes and former Steelers coach Bill Cowher publicly disagreed. Nearly six years ago, Roethlisberger claimed that he was playing with a broken foot, and the team publicly disputed it.
Those are the only two tangible examples of apparent or actual embellishment from Roethlisberger’s extensive, 13-year career, and it’s been years since any question has emerged over whether he attempted to make himself look more injured than he really was.
Roethlisberger has indeed played with and through plenty of injuries, and he has played better than ever late in his career. To the extent Bart Scott was suggesting that Roethlisberger exited Sunday’s game with a trumped up ailment, it’s clearly a real injury — and Roethlisberger continued to play when he easily could have taken the rest of the day off. (In other words, “can’t wait” for Bart’s apology this week.)
Media and fans tend to cling to our #narratives because coming up with new ones requires thought and effort. It’s too easy and convenient to adopt a viewpoint on someone and stick to it, subsequent facts be damned. For Roethlisberger, a perception rooted in a pair of isolated incidents at some point should yield to a broader body of work that suggests a willingness to play with injuries, and to continuously subject himself to more of them.

Report: Roethlisberger absence now pegged at 4-6 weeks
Posted by Darin Gantt on October 19, 2016, 11:13 AM EDT
Earlier this week, Steelers backup quarterback Landry Jones said he wasn’t ready to rule Ben Roethlisberger out this week, though coach Mike Tomlin quickly doused that the following day.
But it might be much longer than a week before Roethlisberger returns.
According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the timetable for Roethlisberger after knee surgery has moved from a week or two to four-to-six.
The Steelers have a bye week after this week’s game against the Patriots, which had some hoping Roethlisberger might return after the bye to play the Ravens. But now games against the Cowboys and Browns are very much in doubt.
Roethlisberger admitted that last year’s injury could be a factor in his current situation, and it appears he’s going to be out longer than anyone with the team anticipated.

Le’Veon Bell: We can’t panic without Roethlisberger
Posted by Josh Alper on October 20, 2016, 7:43 AM EDT
The Steelers won’t have quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the lineup against the Patriots this weekend and his absence seems likely to stretch beyond their Week Eight bye as well.
Landry Jones will start in Roethlisberger’s place, something that’s going to force the Steelers to change some of their offensive plans because so much of what they do is based on Roethisberger’s particular set of skills. Running back Le’Veon Bell said Wednesday that it can’t force the team to lose confidence in the offense’s ability to succeed.
“Everybody understands. We can’t panic,” Bell said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “We understand when Ben goes down, he’s the backup quarterback and you don’t want to put too much on him. Obviously, we can’t scale it back too much because we know he understands the whole offense. As a team, we have to help him. We gotta get him comfortable and confident, and he should be good.”
Jones delivered the “don’t panic” message to the team as well and said he’s not going to “try to be too perfect” when he’s on the field because he’d rather go down playing his game. The Steelers hope he doesn’t go down at all, but that’s certainly been the offensive style with Roethlisberger so they might as well keep it in place.

Rooney: 2-3 weeks is “best-case” for Roethlisberger return
Posted by Darin Gantt on October 20, 2016, 6:00 AM EDT
Ever since it became known that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was going in for knee surgery, the Steelers have sounded optimistic.
Now, team president Art Rooney II said the best case for Roethlisberger’s return two to three weeks.
“I think that two to three is what you can characterize as best-case, but that’s what we’re hoping for,” Rooney said to NFL Network, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Two to six is probably a fair range that somebody can put on it.”
The Steelers have a bye after this week’s game against the Patriots, and returning for that Ravens game afterward has seeming been their hope. But then reports emerged yesterday suggesting the timeline was more likely four to six weeks.
The Steelers will start backup Landry Jones in his absence.
