Can the Steelers win in Foxboro tonight?
Odds seem stacked against us. But when the odds are against us, that's when we can come together as a team and that's a good position for this team. Nothing to lose here in this situation.
Let's look back at the Steelers and NE during their recent 9 and 8 game winning streaks. The Pats have put up 30 points and given up 12 points in their 8 game winning streak. The Steelers have put up 26 points and given up 16 during their 9 game streak.
NE definitely had an easier time than us which can bode well for the Steelers. We're battle tested. We've won by the skin of our teeth many of those games. We've had some good fortune and the will to win some close games. Clearly we're the team playing like our hair is on fire and not taking anything for granted.
It's going to be a real test keeping the Pats under 30 points. Couple have teams have done it. But it's pretty clear the O needs to put up 30+ points on the Pats D which may even be more challenging given how Ben plays on the road and how generally stingy the Pats are when it comes to giving up points.
The one game that we can look at that could be a source of hope is the recent Pats / Broncos game. Denver held NE to 16 points. When I look back at the way Denver played NE, I think we can play a similar style. We can get after the QB and hit Brady. Tom hates being touched more than just about any QB in the NFL. And who can blame him. His is old at 39. But a lot has to do with coverage. We have to knock the Pats WRs / RBs / TEs off their routes for just a split second to give our front 6 time to get to the QB.
Looking back to last years AFCC, Denver hit Brady 20+ times in that game. Von Miller was all up in his business. No reason Bud and James can't become besties with Tom tonight. Hopefully KB allows our LBs and DL to move around and bring pressure up the middle taking away Brady's ability to step up in the pocket. We're not going to fool Brady, but we can make him uncomfortable.
Offensively, it really is going to come down to how Ben plays in Foxboro. Hopefully he gets out of his head and imagines he's playing at Heinz Field. If he can, we'll be ok. I expect Billy B will try to take away Le'veon and AB. Those 2 are 3/4th of our offense. Doing anything else wouldn't make sense. And that should open up opportunities for Rogers, Ayers, Hamilton, DHB, and James to work the middle of the field. Making Ben beat you with the supporting cast has to make NE salivate. They know Ben makes bad decisions on the road. But the thing NE is not considering most likely is that I don't think they can take away Bell.
Ooooh boy, this game is going to be fun. A bit of a chess match. A bit of line em up and see who has more heart and wants it more.
If you look at the way we've been playing lately, I think the Steelers want it more.
We're scratching and clawing. NE is bored playing for more SuperBowl appearances. It's old hat for them. They don't have to really compete. It's easy for them week in and week out. They barely get challenged.
This week it all changes. We challenge them and they have no answer.
Let's go!!!!!!
Flippy says Steelers - 38 A$$holes - 18. It ain't gonna be close. NE won't know what hit them.
