Actually, blocking you was a very mature response. It would have been immature if Golson had engaged you in any way, shape, or form. I'm very pleased with his maturity.

No offense intended, but if I'm being honest, it is probably more immature to talk $#!+ about somebody's friend on their Twitter feed...just sayin'....

As for Burns, he is raw. He's a guy who ran track in the spring instead of practicing football. Now, football is his full time
job and he needs to be good at it...we'll see...

It is only a reach if you consider 4 or 5 draft slots to be a reach...I've never seen him anything but a late-first, early-second CB....it's also telling that KC traded out after the Steelers picked him...

Last year we drafted Bust Dupree and now this year, just for good measure, we select Artie Bust. The future is looking pretty bleak with all of these busts.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

This was a total shocker since the best CB's were already taken as far as we know.....

I'm wondering if Tomlin saw highlights of this game....

We might be looking like the browns with Ben in 2004 this draft with
Denver taking ....PAXTON LYNCH in the future......

I checked his Twitter account, and no bongs yet. So that's a plus.

They are gonna regret passing on about 4-5 defensive lineman they could have had there. Reach pick for sure. Pittsburgh Reachers.

He has the raw athleticism to be potentially dominant, but he's extremely raw. I'd be more confident if we had a Mike Munchak level DB coach to mold him...this is where we find out what we have in Carnell Lake as a coach.

If we got William Jackson III, he might have been able to start opposite Gay from day one with Golson in the slot, but with Burns, we'll have to use Gay and Cockrell outside and Golson inside while Burns gets coached up...contribute on special teams until you are ready for prime time.

When I thought we'd have a shot at WJIII, I didn't want to trade down, but when Cincy nabbed him in front of us, I'm surprised we didn't trade down with Denver at that point to get an extra 3rd rounder. But the fact that we turned in our card so fast with the opportunity to field calls from other teams could mean that Burns may have been the guy we were targeting all along and wasn't necessarily the panic reach pick that many are making it out to be.

From what I've read about him so far, he seems like a really good kid, and he will certainly be motivated to succeed since he has to take care of his two teenage brothers now as well as his own young son. It's too bad that when the NFL Network coverage was about to tell Burns' story, that Denver traded up to get Lynch, and then all of the sudden the Burns pick was an afterthought.

If there is one silver lining to this whole thing, the last time we drafted a record setting hurdler at CB in the first round, we got Hall of Famer Rod Woodson. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

I don't understand the folks comparing this pick to the Jarvis Jones pick, since they couldn't be more different...on one hand, you got a guy with elite college stats put tested poorly, and on the other hand you have an athletic marvel who is very raw as a football player. Two diametrically opposed animals right there.

And squidkid can't call us all mindless sheep who proclaim every pick the "steal of the draft" no matter what, since I don't see anyone doing that now. But now that he's a Steeler, I will support him wholeheartedly.
Ruthless, I agree with you. Burns is an amazing athlete with great potential. Unfortunately, the last time the Steelers drafted a guy like that and unlocked his potential was Ike Taylor. You absolutely cannot miss with first round picks. I hope the Steelers did not miss here, and I hope Burns lives up to his potential. I'll root for him. But boy, I don't like this pick in the first. In the second - no problem. In the third - phenomenal. But in the first - I don't like it.

Basically, the Steelers used a first round pick on Ross Cockrell. They are roughly the same size. Burns is a bit faster with longer arms, Cockrell jumps a bit higher. Both have nice physical tools but are raw. Burns obviously played against better competition, but that's the comparison that springs to my mind.

What really hurts is knowing that the Steelers had defensive lineman rated higher and still took Burns. They could have built a dominant defensive line - and still found a corner in the second.

I'm sure he and dozens of others in the organization saw that and many more highlights and on the balance there was probably significantly more good than bad.

I saw several analysts' mocks (and I don't look at a lot of them), who had him as a 2nd-3rd round pick.

That said, even if it was a bit of a reach, he has a lot of potential, and it was definitely a position of need. I'd like to see the Steelers hire the Munchak of DB coaches to coach him up (whoever that might be).

He has the exceptional athletic ability you want. Like I said in the other post, is Lake the right guy to develop him. That concerns me.

I like the pick better than if it were WILLIAM JACKSON .... I don't think he sees the field this season however who else at this point would??

WJ III and Burns are very similar players. Burns played in a premier conference at a big time program. I liken this pick to the Lawrence Timmons pick in 2007...both guys were considered young and raw...Timmons turned into a rock in the middle of our D after a rocky first two seasons...

He allowed a QB rating of 40.something. Among the lowest in all of football.
