Source: Former Steelers OT Kelvin Beachum agrees to deal with Jags

The Jacksonville Jaguars reached an agreement Tuesday with former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Beachum will earn $4.5 million in the first year and can earn up to $6 million if he reaches his incentives, the source told Schefter.
Jaguars adding Kelvin Beachum to finally give Luke Joeckel some competition.
Kelvin Beachum started 39 games in four seasons with Pittsburgh, including 34 at left tackle over the last three seasons.
Beachum is likely to be asked to restructure the second year of the contract or be released next year, as the source told Schefter that Beachum has a $10 million roster bonus that he would have to be great to achieve.
The move came on the same day that the Steelers signed former Denver Broncos tackle Ryan Harris to a two-year deal.
Beachum greatly outplayed his seventh-round draft billing from 2012, earning three-year starter honors as the left tackle in Pittsburgh before tearing his ACL in Week 7 last season against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Beachum, 26, offsets lack of size for the position (6-foot-3, 303 pounds) with good footwork and hand placement. The Steelers tried to re-sign Beachum before the 2015 season, but both sides could not reach an agreement on a long-term contract.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

This was from the Denver Post regarding Harris signing with the Steelers. Looks as if they got a versatile guy who's played both sides of the line. At least at this time; there's nothing to b!tch about concerning this depth signing.
"Harris provided stability and depth for the Broncos after Ryan Clady suffered a season-ending knee injury in May. In his second stint with the Broncos, Harris advanced quickly up the depth chart. He opened the season as the starting right tackle, playing three games before shifting to the left side for the final 13 games after rookie Ty Sambrailo's shoulder injury against the Detroit Lions.
Harris, 6-foot-5, 302 pounds, played 90.7 of the Broncos' offensive snaps last season, second only to center Matt Paradis. He attracted interest from multiple teams...."sigpicComment

We got a good deal for less than half of what the Jags are going to have to pay Beachum. Heck we have both Harris and AV for half of what Beachum is getting coming off a major injury."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

agreed... and at a good rate.
and i disagree with the defensive picks making impact... an NT would likely immediately go into the rotation. a DB might take a while - i just depends on the position (and injuries in camp)... wouldn't be surprised if a rookie CB beat out Senquez Golson, for example.2013 MNF Executive Champion!Comment

3 things to learn about Ryan Harris

OT Ryan Harris signed with the Steelers for one main reason.
•Winning first: The Steelers continue to make moves in free agency, the latest the signing of tackle Ryan Harris to a two-year contract. Harris, who is in his ninth season, played for the Denver Broncos last year and was a starter in Super Bowl 50. He said he chose the Steelers because he wanted to come to a championship caliber team.
“Most importantly at this point of my career, I want to continue to play for championship-caliber teams,” said Harris. “Teams whose goal is to win a championship, and that couldn’t be any clearer when you walk the halls of this organization.”
•Working with a legend: Another factor that went into Harris’ decision was the opportunity to work with offensive line coach Mike Munchak, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“Coach Munchak was definitely a part of it,” said Harris. “I don’t think you can play offensive line in the NFL and not be aware of Coach Munchak’s reputation, or the Steelers as an organization for that matter. I feel extremely fortunate to be here and be a part of the Steelers’ family. I look forward to getting to work.”
•Ready to work: Harris, who is expected to compete with Alejandro Villanueva for the starting left tackle job, is just focusing on coming in and doing whatever is asked of him.
“I see myself as a veteran offensive tackle with dozens of starts, who can come in and provide both leadership and talent to an already talented and well-led organization,” said Harris. “I expect to be a football player who improves. I think I’ve done that every year in my career, and I’ll look to do the little things that will help me improve again this year.”

There is very little value in the FA Defensive player market. Either too expensive, or too old.
Fans want 'impact' from the Defense like the guys on the Defense currently have hit their peak.
Shazier, Timmons, Dupree, Heyward & Tuitt.
Remove Dupree if you like. But find 4 other players with as much impact at their positions in a 3-4 Defense.
Shazier, Dupree, Tuitt, Golson- there should be improvement there.
Mitchell is solid. Gay too.
People talk like this is the worst Defense, at it's peak, and in decline.
It's young. With only 3 guys 30+.
And a strong Defensive Draft ahead.
Get a grip. The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

I thought we got worse at every possible position except for the OL "push" with All Pro Pouncey replacing journeyman Wallace...There is very little value in the FA Defensive player market. Either too expensive, or too old.

Pretty ridiculous isn't it.
Just add up the number of holding calls Wallace got and how many times he was pushed into the backfield and then convince me he is better than Pouncey. I'll be the first to tell you I think Pouncey is overhyped but he is still a Top 10 Center in the league and way better than Wallace"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment
