    Steelers to sign Ryan Harris

2 years, 3.9 mil. Honestly...not liking the signing at all. Instead, they could have stayed with Villanueva and use the remaining cap money on a defensive tackle...we need more depth on the defensive line than offense.

Wow this signing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't care that he just won a Super Bowl, that line was trash anyways.

Anyone want to talk me into liking this signing? Anyone?

I agree. He's great. We can use him. Defense wins championships, and our is so-so at best.

I like this signing. This isn't guaranteed starter money by any stretch of the imagination. Instead, he is here to compete with AV, with the loser providing a reliable third OT. Given the injuries the Steelers have had over the years on the offensive line, you can't go into the season with no depth at tackle, and there are not a ton of OT prospects in the draft.

Colbert has identified this as a defense heavy draft, and the Steelers can easily spend their first 3 if not 4 picks on defense.

yet none of those draft picks will be impact. and this defense needs impact players now, not in 3 years

It's a depth signing. Just under $2 million a year for a backup swing tackle is fair compensation. Based on the interest in Beachum from other teams, he's likely not coming back for that type of money. I think that the team sees Mike Adams on offense like they see Cortez Allen on defense...not likely in our plans going forward...so we needed legit tackle depth, and this guy has 70 NFL starts under his belt. I don't expect him to start, but I also won't panic if something happens to Gilbert or Villenueva...which is the point of OL depth.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

If Gilbert or Villenueva blew out a knee during offseason training, would you have been satisfied inserting Mike Adams into the starting lineup this year?

Or is a guy who started 16 games for Denver last year and 15 games for K.C. the year before a better option for OT depth?

That is a good explanation of this move, perplexing comes to mind as well. Harris is 31 years old. I must have missed the games where AV got abused by edge rushers and allowed Ben to get crushed or the game when the running game was completely ineffective running to the left. Mystifying works as well. I guess competition is a good thing though.

Ruthless, you nailed it. You can't go into the season without a backup tackle.

Dupree was not an impact player, but he was a first year starter on the defense. And 2016 is all about the finish - you can easily have young defenders making an impact down the stretch. Look at Bryant McFadden against the Colts in the 2005 playoffs for an example.

I'd like to see an addition on defense. There is no depth on the defensive line and the secondary needs a ton of help. But not sure there was a FA that would have really helped this year, aside from Weddle. And he got a lot of money for a 30+ guy coming off an injury.

Jaguars are signing Kelvin Beachum. That explains it.

Adams may be taking a early drive on route 30.

Rational thought prevails courtesy of Ruthless.

Everyone wants the defense to get better but any signing has to make sense and be affordable. Probably a lot of players are still asking for contracts above their weight.

This signing provides protection for the most valuable asset on the team...Ben

Wow. Not understanding the comments here but fortunately Colbert & Co. know what they are doing. This may be the first draft in Steelers history to go defense front to back.... in a talent-rich defensive class. Really no reason to draft O with the moves they are making.
