Here is the rule and explanation. This rule has nothing to do with defenseless and applies SPECIFICALLY to "runners" while running.

We got away with one one that play Especially considering we got possession.
Its only a foul if they think there is intent to go to the helmet, if the helmet hitting the other guys helmet is incidental it is not a foul. The tackle by shazier was clean wrap tackle, Gio dropped his head and the crown of the helmet hit his, the guy is like 5'6''.

Wasn't it whistled dead only after he had run half way down the field? I didn't hear a whistle right away until he was running alone.

No, its a foul if it happens... the refs arent mind readers.

I thought they would call it but it wasnt a dirty hit.

No according to rule itself, if the helmet to helmet is deemed incidental it is not a foul.

The rule actually states unless the helmet to helmet is incidental, believe it or not.

OMG, Dukie, where did you find that, I hope the NFL has it too.

Needs to be suspended for 4-8 games next year. No doubt.

I read somewhere here that despite his skills, he went undrafted ... gee I wonder why.

I'm sure that the NFL will take that into account when determining his suspension.

I subscribe to Dejan Kovacevic' site DK Pittsburgh Sports. It is inexpensive and top shelf.

BTW, I posted it on Facebook, hoping it gets broadly shared.

My comment has NOTHING TO DO with the "defenseless receivers" rule. That is a different rule. That rule came out in 2010 I believe and is not limited to just crown of the head tackles. It also includes any violent blow to the head or neck, including a shoulder or arm blow to the head of a defenseless receiver.

This hit broke a different rule.

You are correct at the point of the tackle Bernard was a runner.
As of 2013 you also cannot hit a runner with the crown of the helmet outside the tackle box in the manner Shazier did. "Tackle box" is key and the reason you see players get away lowered head tackles "in the hole" as you said. They can do that in the tackle box. You see that in short yardage. It works both ways too. A back can no longer ram a defender with the crown outside the tackle box.

                      Please see the second link.
Cap, are you watching the Seattle vs Minny game? Did you see the play near the end of the 3rd quarter or beginning of 4th where Diggs caught the short out and turned upfield, he lowered his head and Sherman lowered his head and there was helmet to helmet collision, clearly. No flag, no nothing, it happens frequently when offensive players become ball carriers and want to get extra yardage.

                        Exactly right.
This guy was a 1-2 round pick--but went undrafted because he was such a dirty guy. That's why what that pea-brain Deion Sanders was saying post-game was so annoying. He was saying that the hit wasn't dirty, and that (his opinion) was coming from the perspective of being AB's friend! You might be able to make that argument if it was a guy with no past history, but Burfict is the last thing from that.

I don't know if I'd say 4-8 weeks, but he should definitely be suspended for his next game. (If we lost, he should have been suspended for the next playoff game. I couldn't imagine he could be suspended the whole postseason.)
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Ravens fans are saying the Burfict hit on Maxx Williams the week before was more egregious than AB's. After seeing the clip, yeah. It was pretty brutal as well.

Actually the hit shazier put on Gio was just as illegal as Butficts hit on AB but wasn't called.

Perhaps, but it wasn't called because Bernard actually held the ball...

If Shazier had gone for the head shot after the ball landed incomplete, like Burfict, you would have seen a flag...
