Did anyone here the "yes" man Licht try and explain away the Glazer brothers' firing of Lovie Smith? He said, "they have won 10 games (or whatever the number) over the past two years and that they have been patient enough." What an effing joke, I hope they go 0-16 next year, they deserve it.

I wish there was a place for Smith on he Steeler coaching staff.

I dont think Lovie is a very good head coach

No reason why he should be let go after two years though, thats not enough time to do anything.

Jeff fisher on the other hand.....

I think Munchak deserves a raise and a cushy assistant HC title. Imo hes one of the best positional coaches of all time but by everything I heard he doesnt want to be a head coach, nor does he want to call plays. He is such an impressive developer of talent and i LOVE his blocking scheme.

I also think Haley is happy here, but for that kind of raise im pretty sure hes not hanging up the phone on anyone interested.
There is no caps on what coaches can get paid and I'll bet Haley gets more than $200-400K...lots more. The Steelers have shown they will pay to keep guys. Just look at Omar Khan our cap guy. He has had many folks make a run after him to be a GM and the Steelers keep paying him more to stay in his current job.

Hmm... I have to disagree. Now, he isn't my kind of coach but I think he is pretty good.

not sure what they expected in Tampa with a rookie QB.

I think its more of lack of impact on the defense, which has been pretty bad. I thought Jameis would have bought him another year because he showed some real promise and they had the 4th ranked offense.

I dont think he gets "lots more". I believe that is about average for a coodinator (expect for outliers like norv turner making several million).

My point is, Haley will entertain offers if presented with any, I dont think the steelers would pay him HC money to remain the OC. All speculation, but at Haleys age I would think he would want another stab at an HC job, similar to McDaniels.

EDIT: i think the average for a coordinator is now around $800k, my bad. I guess there's a few over a million, with norv turner several million per year. Site I remembered looking at was a bit out dated.

As a former head coach and a coordinator I'm betting Haley is over $1M per year by quite a bit. Yes, Head Coach money is better but job security is much worse given the teams you are going to get a job with unless the Giants hire you. Remember too that Haley has a check in the bank from KC so he isn't exactly desperate for the money, although I know there was a dispute about KC paying the full amount but I think they did..

Haley says he likes his job here, he enjoys pittsburgh. Multiplying your salary by 5 might be too good to pass up, job security might be worse for a head coach but I would say Haley has an offensive coordinator job in the NFL again even if he epically fails as a head coach

But like someone said, if the steelers move deeper into the playoffs those jobs might pass him by. I dont think the steelers would let him interview during the playoffs. I dont know the official rule, the team cant block him from interviewing for a position higher than what he currently holds...just not sure when that kicks in

I think you could interview coaches from playoff teams with a first round bye during this week while they are off. For teams without byes, I think you have to wait until they are eliminated, with the exception of the teams that go to the Super Bowl...I believe that since there is a 2 week break between Conference Championship Sunday and Super Bowl Sunday, you can interview their assistants during the week before the Pro Bowl (which now takes place 1 week before the Super Bowl rather than 1 week after it).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

My understanding is that teams can block any coach under contract from interviewing for any coaching assignment, with the exception of Head Coach. Even a lateral or upward move can be blocked at the team's discretion. Generally, teams don't exercise that option, but they can.

They went from 4-12 in Schiano's final season to 2-14 to 6-10...they improved by 4 wins within a period of one season...

That's not good enough for one more year?

Lovie went to a SB with Rex Grossman and went to another NFC championship game.

He is a pretty good coach.

How good is Chicago since he was fired after a 10-6 year?

and what the hell is Fisher doing to keep his job in St. Louis?

That's why Tampa is Tampa. Their ownership cares more about their stake in Premier League Football than their NFL Football team.

And why Cleveland is Cleveland. The Browns cleaned house again and gave a lawyer (who has never been a personnel guy) the final say over their 53 man roster. And his first move was to bring in the baseball analytics specialist (who was portrayed by Jonah Hill in the movie Moneyball) to work in a team sport (rather than an individual statistics-driven sport) with a hard salary cap in place (instead of the severely imbalanced revenue disparity that the Moneyball concept was designed to combat). Brilliant! They would have been better off bringing in the actual Jonah Hill instead, so he could hire Seth Rogan as his coach and James Franco as his GM, and it still wouldn't be as funny as the laughingstock the Browns have been since they returned to the NFL.
