Do you honestly think he didn't get opportunities to return punts? At no point over 2 preseasons and a season and a half they didn't try that out in practice even once just to see if he might have that talent. That's saying the coaching staff purposefully sabotaged the team by not using him or even giving him a look. Preposterous.

He he didn't return punts because he couldn't do it at a professional level. The Steelers would have loved to have him back there if it was option and it wasn't - due to Archer's ineptitude.

Good players make their own opportunities. They gave him tons of chances in every preseason game. Archer had shorts on the track speed and nothing else.

I've said it before and I will say it again, our block on returns is terrible.

Completely agree with this. The poor blocking is the biggest problem.

However, Jones didn't look good either, though. He looked tentative and slow. Both Todman and Pead have returned kicks in the past. If Jones doesn't look any better next week, I'd strongly consider dropping him and filling that last roster spot with somebody useful.

On the mark. At least three guys also seem to get through. Its ridiculous

There is a reason he was on waivers. He has clearly lost a step

A guy with that resume gets picked in the first three rounds of the draft... so it wasn't like we took a guy who wasn't going to be drafted anywhere. Just because YOU happened to disagree, doesn't make it a dumb pick. I'm sure there are plenty of times you said "what a great pick", "what a bad pick", and it didn't turn out that way.

My point is (in not being results-oriented), is that you aren't going to hit 100% of your picks. You might have more of an argument if you could cite a specific guy (e.g. a CB) that we should have taken there.
              here's what's funny.
when any pick is scrutinized, the fanboys gang up and attack the poster that criticized the pick. they pound their chest and proclaim the pick to be a steal and are amazed how smart the steelers are for drafting him (even tho the fanboys never heard of the guys name or seen him play.)
then when the player turns out to be a bust, they hide behind phrases like, "well, some picks just dont work out, look how other teams draft, etc. etc."

Whats funny is how you keep a draft list in your sig while constantly yapping about draft picks...

He is younger and still has a chance to develop, although he may never become that much, he has better potential at this point than Jacoby Jones.
Jones looked like trash today. Archer was the whipping boy because some fans have to blame one player for our woes but I dont see how Jones is an upgrade.

Yeah.. I yap about instant starters and steals in the draft all the time.

I'm not a draft guru qnd rarely get involved in that stuff. The most I do is ask for patience and results before calling someone a bust.

Agreed. I don't watch that much amateur football, so I defer a lot to others regarding draft picks. Some guys overplay their draft position (Antonio Brown), while others play below it. Cam Heyward seemed to take a while to develop but Ziggy Hood never could. Once these guys put on the Steeler uni, I'm pulling for them no matter where they played in school or when they were picked in the draft. Heck, my favorite player is probably James Harrison and he wasn't drafted at all.

Nah. It's way better to thump your chest and be right as opposed to having the team do well...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

Even the so called draft guru's are not guru's, When NFL teams are looking at a college guy, they don't really care about his stats, they are scouting his measurables.

Because you get better results when you are process oriented. You don't know what the result is until it happens, and luck always plays a part in the result.
