Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has made positive strides in his first week since suffering a knee injury in St. Louis, and all signs at this point to him returning in four weeks. Some of the longer projections had him returning in six weeks.
Roethlisberger is off crutches and moving well, according to team sources, and his MCL is on target for a four-week return.
There has been some concern about the bone bruise on the knee as well, and lingering discomfort with that, but so far so good, sources said. While some on the Steelers have quietly said they would not be shocked to see Roethlisberger return before the end of October, at this point a safe estimate is Oct. 25 at Kansas City, barring any setbacks.
The Steelers lost their first game without the Pro Bowler on Thursday night to rival Baltimore, and do not play again until Oct. 12, at San Diego.
Roethlisberger was carted off the field last Sunday after taking a hit to the lower leg by Rams safety Mark Barron -- no fine was issued by the league and the Steelers did not believe it was an intentional dirty hit.
