Mike Mitchell on Steve Smith's "Hit List"

Could not have happened to a more deserving player? I think with Thuggs being out Smith Sr thinks he needs to be the lead donkey for the Rats. Did you also notice the time he grabbed Blake's jersey and held him at arms length while staring him down, all after the play was over? Seems to me he was trying to bait Blake into taking a swipe at him which Blake was smart enough to not do. That's taunting! I don't know how the refs could have missed it.
But back to the main point, Smith got what he deserves.Comment

I saw that and was disgusted once again with the NFL that no flag was thrown. If I was Blake, I would have been mouthing off every second he had my jersey, baiting Smith into taking a swing at me ... something the refs couldn't ignore no matter how much they wished they could.Could not have happened to a more deserving player? OT a bit, but kind of similar ... I am not a football guru, but even I could see about a billion neck collar holds on their offensive line, probably on Harrison from what I could tell by the the side of the field. I'm screaming at the TV for a flag, I think they even got a big play on one of those. Though we did get away with one on that run where (#26?) reversed field completely and made a huge gain.Last edited by SanAntonioSteelerFan; 10-03-2015, 06:31 PM.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good argument. He started 9 games - total - in 4 years in Oakland. Last year was the only season in which he played and started 16 games.
Next time you want to call BS on somebody, try getting your facts straight.Comment

Your right, I'm wrong I apologize.Comment

Went both ways. I almost get the sense they are letting OL get away with a ton of stuff in the name of protecting the QB.... which is probably not a bad thing considering the rate at which starting QBs are dropping lately.I saw that and was disgusted once again with the NFL that no flag was thrown. His career stats show he is pretty much an average DB and a drop-off to what Ryan Clark was, which is probably what most fans are comparing him to.He's been in the NFL for 7 years, but hardly solid for most of that time. After 4 undistinguished seasons in Oakland, he signed for the vet minimum with Carolina, where he had one good year playing behind a good front 7. He was terrible last year. He played well in the Ravens game, but so far, his trash talking has vastly exceeded his on field performance.Comment

Its hard to be above averge in Oakland...
Mitchell was a beast in Carolina and he has been pretty good this year IMO. Pass D has been awesome outside of the NE game. I missed the SF game but heard it was garbage stats once the game was already decided.
Even if we are comparing Mitchell to Clark its not like Rya came in and was elite from day 1.Steelers 27

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'beast'. Old man Polamalu had more total tackles and Clark had almost double the tackles of Mitchell the year he was in Carolina. Mitchell was the 46 ranked Safety in 2013 for total tackles and assists. Its hard to be above averge in Oakland...

Mike Mitchell fined for hit on Antonio Gates
In Monday night’s game between the Steelers and Chargers, the officials didn’t only miss 18 seconds coming off the clock. The officials also missed Pittsburgh safety Mike Mitchell taking a shot at San Diego tight end Antonio Gates away from the play, as a Philip Rivers pass sailed toward another area of the field.
The league office didn’t miss it. Mitchell has been fined $8,681 for unnecessarily striking Gates.
The oddly-specific amount comes from negotiations between the NFL and NFL Players Association regarding the maximum amounts under the annual fine schedule.
The extra contact didn’t keep Gates from scoring a pair of touchdowns in his return from a four-game PED suspension.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

You dont have to make a ton of tackles when the front 7 is dominating and forcing 3 and outs. Troy also played 5th LB.
More tackles by a safety isnt a good stat for a defenseSteelers 27

That's a good point. Also factor in against pass-happy teams, DBs would naturally get more tackles than against running teams.Comment
