From many of the reports I read in training camp this year, Howard Jones was not good at all. In games, he flashed against 3rd string offensive lineman, but nobody that followed the team in camp was impressed with him this year.

Josh Mauro was also supposed to be all world when he was taken from the Steelers PS last year...

He's got a couple of starts, 4 solo tackles, 1 sack and 1 pass defended and Jones has 4 solo tackles, 5 assists, 0 sacks and 0 passes defended, so they're pretty even right now. One is a first round selection and the other a PS pick up by the Cards.

          One is also a DE...

Incidentally, we'll be able to evaluate both of them when the Steelers play the Cards later this year..

I hope JJ isn't still being outperformed by Mauro when that game occurs.

We don't know if JJ is being outperformed by Mauro now...unless, of course, you think stats=good performance...

Give JJ his due--sack and forced fumble thus far early in the 3rd. Keep it up.

You do realize that stats have been developed to measure performance. If they are meaningless why do all major sports have metrics they track? I do think they are a better metric than "the look test"

and yet, you constantly point to the film of JJ at Georgia to discredit his sask stats in college.

                    it's a combination of the 2.

it's been his best game of his career. I hated the pick honestly. But in our defense it takes a good 3 years for LBs to develop...or maybe it just seems that way. If he was to develop that would be a major plus for this D going forward. Sadly, if he does develop his prime/productive years will probably be spent on a different team

JJ finally gets a sack after being stoned on a stunt. Heyward forced Rivers up...... the whistle blew b4 JJ even touched him.

Hey, I'm not a fan and never thought he was a good pick but he had a good game compared to his previous 3. Give him his due. Hopefully he builds on it

they blew the whistle early as hell to protect Rivers.

Are you really going to break down assignments to discredit his sack?

The whistle blew because Jones had him. You don't like him, that's fine. But it looks petty when he has a sack and a forced fumble.

The rotation of the 4 OLBs is working pretty well from what I see. None of them are standing out, but none of them are playing poorly either. They stay fresh and late in the game that can come in handy. Gruden was talking about Heyward needing a blow, he comes out, Thomas goes in and the Chargers run for 9 yards up the middle, Heyward back into the ball game. I wish the Steelers had some linemen that they could put in to give Tuitt and Heyward some real rest during the game. The linebackers are fresh all game long.
