No, it's really not that simple. If down by six and playing with four downs, the Ravens had as good a chance of winning as they did of tying late.

Yes, if Antonio Brown makes the catch in the end zone late in the game, the Steelers win. It's that simple.
Way too much time on the clock to know how that would have changed the outcome.

Here are the two key plays of the game that, in my mind, best illustrate how Tomlin's lack of mastery of coaching strategy is hurting the Steelers and set them up to fail in this game, not once, but twice:

12:37 left in Overtime, the Steelers facing 4th-and-2 at Baltimore's 39-yard line. Tomlin elects to go for it, and that's what doomed the Steelers.

9:45 left in Overtime, the Steelers facing 4th-and-1 at Baltimore's 33-yard line. Tomlin elects to go for it, and that's what doomed the Steelers.
How could the first play have "doomed the Steelers" if the second play happened? I agree that this was largely a coaching loss, but the logic in that article is full of holes.

Our players where in position to win that game and they could not execute, Brown was wide open on that play in Ot and Vick missed him, also lets not forget we where in a position to have to go for it because our kicker could not execute his job.
Vick is not a good short passer. That was like the last play you want to run there.

Punting and pinning the Ravens deep would have been better.

Getting the ball to AB or Bell with blocking would have been better.

Read option with Vick would have been better.

Asking the QB who you said didn't have to win the game, to win the game, smacks of coaching hubris.

Vick is not a great short passer but plenty good enough to hit a wide open guy. Punting is only good if you pin them deep, which isn't easy, if the punt ends up a touchback you have sacrificed a chance to win the game for 15 yds of field position. It was a good play call, it worked, Vick just didn't execute the throw. It wasn't a matter of asking Vick to win the game, its not like we asked him to carry the offense, we asked him to hit a wide open 5 yard out.

            It didn't work.

You're blaming the loss on two guys who weren't on the team a month ago, after Tomlin put the game in their hands.

We are not going to agree, you obviously have a hard-on for Tomlin.

And Haley. And LeBeau last year.

Coaching matters. The Steelers' offense is a Ferrari that they get Toyota Carolla production out of half the time. The defense has the same group of guys as last year but is getting to the QB and forcing turnovers this year.

                    Why? What changed?

Steelers need someone in the center of the D-line who can get leverage and consistently hold their ground.

If they hadn't allowed nearly 200 yards rushing, I might concede "best hire in years". At this point, i'm still in wait and see mode. Love his blitz agression
97 of Forsett's 150 came in the second half and OT. I posted in another thread the TOPs for the Steelers drives in the second half and OT. The O never let the D rest. The D played well, but can't be expected to keep it up when they are trotted back out onto the field every two minutes.

This is on the O and the coaches who couldn't figure out a way to keep a drive moving.

This is where Vick's lack of playing and/or practice time came into play...he took some bad sacks in the 2nd half which led to drives being killed...

Even with all that, we would still have won, but for want of a semi-reliable kicker...

They looked like bad sacks because they came at bad times, however, the alternative could have been an INT had he tried to force or make a throw that he isn't comfortable making. The sack may have been the best decision, but, there's no way to know.
