It was actually $5.5 million for two years, with $3 million guaranteed. Yeah, the Steelers were too smart to do that, they preferred to pay Cortez Allen $26 million for five years. And who would you prefer to have at this point, Allen or McCain? It is bad decisions like this which have lead to Antwon Blake and Will Allen being starters in our secondary.

This. I would even go a step further and say that Blake was younger and a RFA...but, both seem to be #3 or #4 type players...I still hold out hope for Cortez...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Let's not get crazy. I only said that I hold out hope. I'm not ordering a Cortez Allen jersey off of the site that always spams the board...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

I would prefer McCain over Allen BEFORE taking the contract differential into account. It is because of massive mistakes like the contract to Cortez Allen that we can't keep a better player at less than half the cost. And I hope you're right about Blake being almost as good as McCain, because at this point we're not going to be able to find a competent CB on the open market.Comment

What other massive mistakes do we have on our roster contract-wise? The guys who are getting paid big money are pretty much the ones that deserved to be paid (Ben, Antonio, Pouncey, Heath, Timmons, Heyward). We gave good money, but not huge money, to Cortez Allen, Marcus Gilbert, and Mike Mitchell...so far Gilbert has lived up to his end of the bargain, while the other two are still question marks. The total value of each of those deals looks big at first glance, but the guaranteed dollars made up roughly 20% of the total value of the deal, so if after this year the team decides to cut bait with Cortez and/or Mitchell, we won't need to swallow a massive Woodley-like dead money cap hit.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Mitchell looks like crap, overpaid
Cortez looks like crap, overpaid
I'm still not convinced heyward is worthy 10 million per
Maybe not massive mistakes, but certainly questionable decisions at this junctureComment

BTW, I believe Mitchell's contract was done to try him for 2 years and cut him if he doesn't pan out.
His base salary was 750k last year and remains the same this year. Next year it jumps to 5M.If I spell a word incorrectly or make a grammar mistake, I apologize. English is not my native language.Comment

People were willing to be patient with Woodley taking half the season to warm up to game shape. Maybe they should give Heyward the same deference.Comment
