If I recall correctly, Terrell Suggs' timed speeds coming out of college were significantly below average.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Do you really believe Jones will ever be Terrell Suggs? Really?

Who knows? Nobody has seen enough of his play to make an informed determination either way...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

IIRC though, Suggs was 4.85 but at around 260 lbs. It was a bad time for sure, but I don't think it's the same as a 245 lb. guy running 4.9 (at his pro day).

How did he do anyway? I was watching at a bar, so I couldn't focus on him. Didn't see him out there though.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Where did I say that? I simply responded to a post about LB's with slow 40 times not succeeding in the NFL....Terrell Suggs is a LB with a slow 40 time who succeeded in the NFL. Vontaze Burfict is another one. Does that mean that Jarvis is another Suggs or Burfict? No. Different players. Just saying that one's time running 40 yards in a straight line in your skivvies doesn't necessarily mean you will be a good or bad LB. There are many aspects of the Combine and Pro Days which are MUCH more important than the 40, but the 40 time remains a glamour number nonetheless.

man, he isn't reading all that stuff you just typed.

All he saw was Suggs and Burfict... and unless he turns into one of them he is a bum.

Ok I have not been on the Jarvis Jones "hate train" since we drafted him, but man I feel like I'm starting to get on board. He is getting absolutely no pass rush, he is getting manhandled at the point of attack, and he can't shed a block to save his life. I know we are running a basic scheme but I was still expecting him to win some one on one battles. Is everyone else seeing the same thing, or am I just over reacting?

Its hard to say because he had his pads off off after a series or two as if he had earned something, I didn't see it. I feel like he should have been getting reps in the game, but that's just an observation from someone that is a fan and has no idea what is happening within the team.

He was in the game well into the second quarter.

According to an article (that I tried to but can't post), Jones was in on 19 snaps (26%). Dupree was in on 33 (46%).

Of other defensive players we expect to see start, or get a lot of playing time this season:

                        Shazier 57%
                        Shamarko 50%
                        Cam Thomas 43%
                        Tuitt 38%
                        Moats 26%
Cortez, Will Allen, Blake, and Gay 24%
                        Heyward 19%
                        McClendon 17%
                        Deebo 15%

No Timmons, no Mitchell (still injured).

Even more to my point, it was difficult to remember when he was in the game due to lack of plays being made, good or bad. It sure felt like he was out of the game early on with his pads off.

You can minimize preseason all you want, but there are other (circumstantial) signs that don't look good for Jarvis. First, the team doesn't re-sign a guy like Deebo if they were confident in Jarvis. Actually, it mirrors Jarvis' original drafting doesn't it? Deebo was let go, the year Jarvis was picked. You don't sign a guy like Harrison (old guy, take up a crucial roster sport) unless you don't have full confidence in your current prospects.

#2 is signing Dupree. Bud was a value pick, no doubt. But also, I think the team went into the draft looking at OLBs in particular. It shows that they knew that a Moats-Jarvis Jones duo is not one that you feel great about, going forward. If Jarvis was the stud we'd all like to believe, you wouldn't go in looking for another OLB.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but the circumstances seem to say that the writing is on the wall.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Why would they be confident in Jarvis? He was on IR last year! Of course you have to bolster the most important position on the defense...between his injury and Worilds retirement, picking Dupree and signing Harrison was a no brainer.
