I'm thinking quite a bit south of 3rd.

This isn't about "bashing" Haley...but truly, can you imagine him getting such rave reviews if his starting QB was Bruce Gradkowski... or Geno Smith or Alex Smith or Brian Hoyer or just about anyone other than Roethlisberger?
I actually think BR finally bought into Haley's offense more and took the checkdown to Bell and scrambled for firsts unlike previous years. Seemed like up till last season he was still reluctant to take what the defense was giving him but was clearly working on it. I expect this season to be just as good if not better because BR will continue his maturation.

Ummm..yeah since he was a good OC before he ever had Ben.

No disrespect to Ben but he isn't shaking off defenders after a 5 step drop without blocking like he used to do with BA.

I truly believe if Haley is here after Ben leaves or if God forbid he gets injured our Offense won't suffer that much because the QB isn't asked to perform miracles.

we run a ton of screens and a ton of bubble screens and a lot of QB's can throw those passes. What makes Ben special is the big arm and extending plays... and yes, he is a monster in the 15 yard range but that isn't in our game plan like it was under BA
That's correct. Haley's systems survive very average QBs.

          Hank Stram fan, I see.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Again, I really am not trying to knock Haley. I just think it's funny. At this point one year ago, where do you think Haley would have been ranked by the "experts"? Did he suddenly become that much better? I'll grant that his adjustments and coaching have likely contributed some to his "climb" in the rankings.

I suspect that reality is that Haley wasn't quite as bad as he would have been ranked last year, and he's not as good as he's ranked this year.

And probably none of this really matters very much.

If the offense keeps improving, good for Haley and good for this team.

He still has plenty of room for improvement when it comes to his red zone offense, IMO.
No offense, but I hate his argument. It reminds me of the Lebron James argument-those saying he's the greatest even though he has lost 4 champs and only won 2. They always argue that it's bc he doesn't have the players. hate it.
but to get back to your first point, he did have Miller, Holmes and Ward. Sure FWP isn't the same, but Ben has had weapons before. Even with weapons he took a lot of sacks and a lot of hits that he didn't need to. IMO alot of those sacks were on the OC. Too many calls for deep drop backs, long developing plays and not playing to our team strengths (or line was terrible, why would you want your qb to hold the ball for 7 seconds). Arians would have been crucified if Ben would have gotten injured to the point of it affecting his career. We got lucky and it didn't, but Arians def wanted to see what Ben could handle.

Couldn't agree more. This offense was still stuck in the mud for the better part of 3 seasons despite Roethlisberger and Brown until Bell exploded and Bryant started getting more reps.

Absolutely! I actually met him one time at the Ritz Carleton next door.
He was in a wheelchair being pushed around by Lou Sahadi, who authored Steelers: Team of the Decade. (1979)
Lou was so surprised when i told him about my copy of his book, he asked me to show it to him. So i ran home and grabbed the book (big, hardcover, lots of pictures)
and brought it back for him to autograph...it was a big deal for Lou to see that his book was still out there. I guess Hank Stram was feeling left out because he spoke up and said "Hey, Im Hank Stram, I used to coach the Kansas City Chiefs." Told Hank it was such an honor to meet an NFL Hall of Fame coach such as himself and he had a very good reputation. So yes, I am a fan.

I always liked that Stram would wear a suit on the sidelines with the Chiefs logo embroidered onto the blazer. That seems better than what NFL coaches wear now (or god forbid, the fact that baseball makes its coaches wear actual player uniforms for some stupid reason).

There was a coach a few years ago who would wear a suit and the NFL fined him because he wasn't wearing Reebok. Can't remember who it was...

                        Was it Jack Del Rio?

That's really something, you have Belichick dressing like a slob in his hoodie, and they fine the HC who wears a suit.

For a few games when Jack Del Rio and Mike Nolan were HCs, they were given special permission to wear suits provided by Reebok.

They fine coaches and players for not conforming to the sponsored dress code, not for looking like idiots. Hence, Belicheat's torn up hoodie is perfectly acceptable.

If they fined them for looking like idiots, some of them would have to pay up every week.

                              BINGO!

Ben was well on his way to the end of the line for him, until Haley came along. Ben would've been Eli right now (broken down, shell of himself due to accumulation of physical/mental pressure). AND... Ben seemed to bristle against the change in philosophy!

Haley deserves a ton of credit here! He could've continued to cowtow to Ben (Arians philosophy)... and Ben would be dead right now. Instead, he stuck to his guns, even when all of Steeler Nation was calling for his head (you all know who you are... hint: you are of the same opinion as Snoop Dogg). As a result of Haley's leadership, Ben has been pretty much injury-free for his tenure.

Give Haley his due. I'm not saying he is a future HC... but he took SO MUCH heat here. And now, everyone acts like they weren't one of those.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

No, Crash, you'll be back. You can't possibly stay away. You don't have the willpower.
