Hearing from Butler I think things will be different. ..

Than what DL ran, he didn't give it all away but he did say that the D line won't be covering up for the Lbs anymore.

Also read in another thread that he was very successful at Memphis running a 3-3-5 with a lb and 2 DE take it for what it's worth.

Not a lot of beef in that lineup....hope we dont try that on first or second down....or third for that matter unless they have 20 or more yards to get a first...

IIRC, Butler played in a one-gap type 3-4 for several years in Seattle. The Steelers were moving that way with studs like Heyward and hopefully Tuitt on the D-Line...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

This is a "pass first and pass often" league now. Beef is less important than the speed to get sideline to sideline and to quickly pressure the QB.

Hopefully he's just adjusting this D to best utilize the talent the Steelers have.

As far as I know, they still crown a rushing champion every year. Im sticking by my comment.

Yet he did offer a hint at one change. Under LeBeau, the three defensive linemen’s primary duty was to eat up blockers and allow linebackers to make the plays. It is why their defensive linemen had so few sacks and tackles through the years (and also few Pro Bowls).Butler, 59, suggested that will change.

“We have a lot of [high] draft choices in that front seven. We have to use those draft choices in those front seven, not only the linebackers but [ends Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt].

Those guys are talented guys. We have to use them too.
WOW!!!! Using talented guys and taking advanatage of their strengths...what a coaching concept!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Running a one-gap scheme does not mean that the run defense is weakened...lots of one-gap schemes stopped the run better than the Steelers...

Yea since Lebeau NEVER did that. EVER.
I hope I'm wrong, but if our defense is the same, you better be whining just as much

Let's look at what Butler ACTUALLY SAID OV.

He referenced high draft picks we now have on the D-line.
We never had that until recently (well we had the bust that was Ziggy).

And WHO IS OUR RETURNING SACK LEADER?

                        Hint, HE AINT A LINEBACKER.

When your best pass rushing DE is a 4th rounder who runs a 5.0 40 but is strong as an ox, having him control linemen to free up linebackers so THEY CAN WREAK HAVOC and our team can have unquestionably the best defense in the league for a decade IS PLAYING TO OUR STRENGTHS.

Now with 1st rounders at Dline, and linebackers who were old, and injured, we already began using Heywards as a pass rusher. As he grows he will continue to get better.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Whine? Really? My only complaint with DL leaving was the WAY it happened. EVERY Thread ends up with OV pissing and moaning about either DL or JJ
