Greatest Play in Steelers History

www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/pittsburgh-steelers-nfl-features-news-blog-long-form/2015/4/10/8383117/pittsburgh-steelers-all-time-greatest-plays-bracket-finals-the

I've been following this 'contest' from the beginning and was sad to see Jack Lambert tossing Cliff Harris go down early but Deebos interception in the SB looks like it will be the ultimate winner. I chose the Immaculate Interception over the Immaculate Reception because they are both incredible and Deebos was in a Super Bowl. I think there is still time to vote until Saturday morning.

I'd really argue for Holmes catch to win the Super Bowl.

Another biggie, immaculate redemption with Ben bringing down nick Harper on the Bettis fumble

Those two were the semi-final losers.

Swann's leaping sky catch against Cowboys in Supe 13. The NFL had not seen that type of athleticism and offensive firepower before. There was no match anywhere for Bradshaw and his receivers. Under today's rules, 19-0 isn't hard to imagine.

I would agree with the Deebo pic in the SB. It is amazing, to watch it from time to time. How many little moments within that play, made the difference: If Tomlin doesn't practice returning INTs, maybe Ike doesn't sprint along with Harrison, thereby getting in the way of a tackler. Or if Fitz doesn't have to dodge guys on the sideline, maybe he brings him down at the 8. Etc.

Not to mention the playcall, the catch, the run by Harrison.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

How about O'Donnell to Ernie Mills in the 1995 AFC Championship game as an honorable mention ??

Harrison INT had to be the greatest. I don't think we win that game without that play.

I still say its the Immaculate Reception. It was against the Raiders and to this day they still argue over it.

My dad was at the music bar in Pittsburgh. He said the game was blacked out locally but they had a feed from Cleveland playing in the bar. My dad bet on the Steelers and left before the reception because he was PO'ed. All of a sudden he hears the whole city erupt and people were throwing papers out of the office windows and running out into the street. He runs back to the bar and finds out what happened and spent the next 3 days partying all over Pittsburgh.

The IR was the changing of the guard, before that play we were the losingest team in the NFL. Ever since we have been the winningest.

I couldn't agree more, it's the one single play that every NFL fan knows of and still generates controversy to this day...

I wonder if it's more memorable because of it's place in time?

it's a number of things.

I think it's because the play looked like it was over and next thing you know a guy is running down the field scoring a touchdown on the last play of the game.

It wasn't a hook in ladder or a music city miracle. The only other play that can rival it is the Cal, Stanford band on the field. However, there are tons of crazy last plays for TD's in college.

The IR has a crazy bounce and its impossible to see if it hit the ground.

IMO it's the greatest play in professional sports because you thought the Steelers were going to lose when Frenchie got popped.

This is the reason for me...it served as the springboard for greatness. No play prior to this one is even remotely in the discussion (for obvious reasons) and you could make the argument that none of the other plays would have been possible without it. The Immaculate Reception is part of the identity of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

People tend to forget the Steelers lost the following week after the Immaculate Reception to the Miami Dolphins.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

.

Here's a link to an article celebrating the 40th anniversary of the play from Steelers.com (too long to post):

I don't think anyone cares about what happened the next week... lol. Pretty sure it was the first playoff win in our modern era of the NFL.,

starting something... winning something... something on the line... those are the determining factors for me... Swannies catch may be one of the the coolest plays, but, it wasn't a game winner, etc.

Immaculate reception was sort of the "getting over the hump, starting of a dynasty" play. And well, Holmes's play won the freaking super bowl. Those two plays are in the debate and any other play is an "also ran". There are a lot of very good plays, but, i can't think of another play that I would throw in there.
