Time running out for Steelers' 3rd string QB Landry Jones?
This below is courtesy of my friend SGT Robo from Scout talking about the alleged #1 ranked defense in 2011:
Teams know the scheme. They admit it. They laugh about it. Were it not for a laughable ensemble of incompetency last season @ QB by our opponents, that #1 rating would've been much lower.
Let's take a look, shall we?
Week 1 - Joe Flacco - LOSS
Week 2 - Tarvaris Jackson (not a starter this season)
Week 3 - Curtis Painter, Kerry Collins (neither starters this season)
Week 4 - Matt Schaub - LOSS
Week 5 - Matt Hasselbeck (not a starter this season)
Week 6 - Blaine Gabbert (rookie)
Week 7 - Kevin Kolb (lost starting job to John Skelton)
Week 8 - Tom Brady (39 minutes' time of possession
Week 9 - Joe Flacco - LOSS
Week 10 - Andy Dalton (rookie)
Week 12 - Tyler Palko (not a starter this year)
Week 13 - Andy Dalton (rookie)
Week 14 - Colt McCoy (not a starter this year)
Week 15 - Alex Smith - LOSS
Week 16 - Kellen Clemens (not a starter this year)
Week 17 - Colt McCoy (not a starter this year)
So there you have it. Out of 16 games last year, we played 5 games against non-rookies who still have starting jobs. 2 against Flacco, 1 against Alex Smith, 1 against Matt Schaub, 1 against Tom Brady. We were 1-4 in those games.
We played 8 games against QBs who are NOT starting this season. We went 8-0 in those games.
We played 3 games against QBs who were rookies. We went 3-0 in those games.
Please. Save the "#1 defense" argument for someone whose head is buried in the sand. 1-4 against NFL quality starters who weren't rookies. 11-0 against rookies and scrubs.
Including the playoffs last year and this year so far, you can put us as 2-7 against NFL quality starters, if you consider Sanchez and Tebow NFL quality.

Look Crash, there's no doubt this offense has room to improve. Especially when it comes to red-zone efficiency. I have called, and will continue to call for that. But don't be so blinded that you can't see the obvious bright spots.
Todd Haley's offense (you know, that moronic golf coast offense featuring the likes of Mike Adams, James Harrison, Matt Spaeth, and Will Johnson running routes all the time) actually lined up in 11 personnel two thirds of the time last year. For those who are unfamiliar, that's a single back set with one TE and 3 wideouts. Sounds like a base offense to me.
two thirds of the time is not enough for Crash. why pay your franchise QB $99 million if you're not going to have him throw it every damn time? wasting Ben's talent is what that is...

Throwing for a Steeler record yardage, attempts, and it ain't Ben centric enough for Crash.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
The blue print for success for 8 years was the same: Throw early, get leads, run the ball.
But in 2009, when Ben was unable, to save the defense from their numerous 4th quarter meltdowns, rather than place the blame where it belonged, Ben and Arians were blamed.
And that's when this all started.
My stance on Ben is simple: If you want 1976 football? Then you send Ben to another team, then load up on backs and defense.
As Herb Brooks said: You don't hire Picasso to paint a garage.
What 76 football are you seeing?
DAN STINKIN FOUTS under air Coryell NEVER THREW AS MUCH AS WE DID LAST YEAR.

I have said it here before.
Crash sees every Steeler as a hero or villain SOLELY on how he perceives their relationship with the QB.
That is why:
He loves Arians
Hates Haley
Hated Ward
Likes Tomlin
Hated BC
Every poster here is judged on the same criteria.
You can PROCLAIM Ben your favorite QB of all time, the best Steeler QB EVER and IF YOU SUGEST he is less than perfect, or do not give him all credit for team success you hate Ben and are the enemy.
Dont beleive me?
Just let Tomlin slip up with a big criticism of Ben and Tomlin would be in his doghouse.
