I wonder if Beasley moved out of our reach with his good showing at the combine.
5 Edge Rushers the Steelers Must Consider

He was considered a top half of the 1st round guy before today. With that sub 4.6 speed and 35 reps in the bench he did nothing to cause his stock to drop. He played with his hand in the dirt at Clemson but he is so athletic moving to olb will not be a problem for this future star.Comment

I really dont think thats enough for such a key position. EVERYBODY is unproven except for the guy on speed dial.sigpic

No, it's just hard to justify having two #1s go at it. Especially when the two aren't Lawrence Taylor and Derrick Thomas. Whoever would win this competition, it wouldn't be like we have an impact guy at that position. While I don't consider Jarvis a bust, I think we have a good idea of his ceiling... I don't see him becoming James Harrison-level impact, nor Greg Lloyd or even Peezy-level. I can see him becoming a Jason Gildon-level guy (which of course is fine), or slightly below Peezy.
As for OLB, I'd be fine with Jarvis on the right... and going into camp with:
-a veteran like Moats
-the CFL guy we just got
-Howard Jones, the guy who was making waves last preseason
-Zumwalt
-and keeping Harrison's phone number on speed dial
Need more than a Jason Gildon level of performance out of Jones if this team is going to be successful and take a step forward. Unfortunately I think you are right that he will unlikely ever be better.
I also think Zumwaldt is an inside LB. Seems with the huge logjam of talent we have on the inside and the dearth of talent on the outside we need to move someone like Shazier outside or play more 4-3 or another formation that gets the Def Line more involvedLast edited by Oviedo; 02-23-2015, 10:00 AM."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

You do realize that Jason Gildon is the Steelers All-Time Sack Leader, right? I realize that sacks weren't an official statistic during the Steel Curtain heyday in the 70's, but Gildon still has more sacks than Greg Lloyd, Joey Porter, James Harrison, etc.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

Fowler is a top 5 guy imho. Beasley top half of the first. Perhaps as high as top 12. Fast guys go early and he is that and more. Dupree may have a shot to fall because of his lack of leverage in the run game. Physical freak so it's not likely but at least a shot.Comment

@ After the workouts of Vic Beasley and Dante Fowler Sunday, there's no chance the Steelers get a crack at either in the draft.
They'll both be top-10 picks.
Randy Gregory likely also will be gone, but he's too light in the pants for the Steelers, anyway.
The Steelers did meet with Bud Dupree of Kentucky at the combine, and he wasn't able to do a lot of the workout stuff because of an injury. But he did run a 4.56 40 at 269 pounds.
Dupree's production didn't always match that kind of athleticism, but he'll be intriguing.
So too will Eli Harold of Virginia, who worked out Sunday with the defensive linemen, then stayed on for some linebacker drills. He played some linebacker, and it showed Sunday. He was fluid in his drops and change of direction.
He also ran a 4.6 40 at 6-3, 247 pounds.

I don't want to the Steelers to be the "Detroit Lions"-esque that drafts linebackers in the first for many years (like the Lions did with Wide Receivers)..So I guess if it really comes down to it...go for Danny Shelton, atleast it will fill a need instead of linebackers. We can sign a proven linebacker (with actual pro experience) from free agency. I would love to finally see the Steelers draft a corner, but as results have shown today..there isn't any corner that will be available for the Steelers that done well at the combine (Waynes, for an example)..so move onto the next needed position, which is defensive tackle. I still really want Marcus Peters but it all depends on how much Colbert and crew can depict what exactly Peters' issues are and if he's worth the gamble at #22.2022 NFL Mock Draft

1. Malik Willis, QB; Liberty
2. Daniel Faalele, OT; Minnesota
3. Dante Stills, DT; West Virginia
7. Riley Moss, CB; IowaComment

i dont think Jaleen Collins is out of the question at 22 if they decide to go for a CB
i would prefer Dupree, but starting to believe he will be off the boardComment
